Meadfest! [Late Sunday Morning, The Park]

If anyone had been near the park early on this chilly morning, they might have noticed a group of large, smiling women setting up some kind of feast.

No, it wasn't a celebration for graduation. These were the immensely happy Viking wives who'd finally gotten their husbands back! They still weren't sure how the men had brought the landmasses with them, since their stories were so strange and most of them had come back with head and jaw injuries, but there was a fine castle and a quaint little town on the lake now, and there would be time for finding answers after the celebration was over.

Since the people on the new land had been so kind as to help the Vikings get home, it seemed only fair to the wives to let them share in the celebration. As far as the men were concerned, the people of the island had proven to be strong and fearless in battle, and the Vikings had quite a bit of respect for that. And not just because they'd gotten their asses handed to them.

So, in a symbol of sharing, the people had brought their food and drink to the biggest field they could find in Fandom. It wasn't long after the food had been set out that the mead started flowing, and once everyone arrived, it would be a proper feast.

The resemblance was uncanny. No wonder Kennedy was proud.

Wesley couldn't contain a chuckle at that. "Well. Thank you, I suppose," he said to both of them, smiling. To Kennedy, he teased, "Whatever will I do once you've graduated and there's no one to remind me to unwind all the time?"

Kennedy snorted as Constance gave Wesley a sympathetic look. "What, like there's no such thing as a phone? Or email? I can so call all the time to remind you. Don't think I wouldn't."

He rolled his eyes. "Oh, I doubt it," he laughed, smiling. "You'll be much too busy staking vampires and such. But I suppose newspaper clippings of your accomplishments would do in a pinch."

"Whoa, whoa, hey, so not jumping right into the field," Kennedy exclaimed hurriedly as Constance gave her a Very Pointed Look, and Jañe a you are so lucky I'm not going to tell on you one. "Besides, there are things I make time for, and bugging you is totally on the list."

Oh. Was that... not a thing? He'd kind of assumed from his incredibly awkward conversation (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/2810522.html) with Tara in the library a few weeks ago that field work had been the plan. Oh, but maybe she didn't want Constance and Jañe to know about that.

Wow, Wes. Awesome powers of deduction right there.

"I'm flattered," he said dryly.

Field work was totally the plan. The plan she'd made without any, er, professional consultation.

"You should be," Kennedy replied, turning her head to give him a half-panicked shhh, keep it on the down-low look at an angle that she hoped Constance wouldn't see. "'cause I'm totally going to do it."

"I'll be waiting by the phone," he said with a sarcastic little eye-roll. Like there was any other kind of eye-roll. "And I suppose you'll expect incoming phone calls as well?" he joked. "Perhaps if there's another invasion and we need your... er, strategizing expertise?"

Yes, Constance, she brought strategizing to the table. That was her big contribution. Certainly nothing fighty. Shh.

"Oh, for the love of God, Wyndam-Pryce," Constance cut in with a long-suffering sigh. "If you honestly thought I would believe you would call her for help on strategy, much less dissuade her from running off to play demon-fighting vigilante, I might have to reverse my recently-improved opinion of you."

...she was kidding. A little bit.
