Kyle had a list of things he wanted to do in Fandom before he went home. Being on hold with Portalocity's customer service was not one of them. He'd waited over an hour in his room, waiting for the annoying music and intermittent service messages to stop. After that, he decided that he wasn't sitting in his room any more.

He made it to the road outside of Luke's when the music finally stopped and the customer service agent spoke. Kyle gave her the details of his portal so he could find out why they wanted him to call back.

"No, my portal is leaving tonight." Pause. "It's been booked for weeks!" Pause. "Maybe it's under a different name." Pause. "Canceled? It can't be canceled. I'm supposed to go tonight. They're waiting for me. I- yes, I know it's a busy weekend. I know, Iceland. There was a viking thing. Re-booking? What is that?"

Kyle frowned at the phone after hanging up. It looked like he wasn't leaving today after all. They'd call him back once they managed to figure out when they could book him a new portal. Damn it.

"Kyle!" Rose couldn't help the note of relief as she finally found him. "...Jesus, when'd you start to use a cell phone?"

Important things first.

"After I took the tracker out." He put the phone in his pocket. "Which was after I worked out how phones work. It took a while. Here for graduation?"

"Sort of, yeah," she agreed, unable not to be amused at herself for the whole thing. "Congratulations, by the way. Were you really planning to make out with that viking dude?"

"The one from yesterday or Hiccup?"

"...is the answer going to be different?" Rose checked.

"No, but you should be more specific. Why sort of? Is something else happening?"

"Well, now I'm waiting for you to tell me the truth about your relationship with that viking," Rose joked. She shook her head. "Graduation was a bonus. Really I'm on a recruiting mission."

Oh so official too.

"What do you need me for?" He cut straight to the point.

Rose shot him a look that was half-grateful for not making her ask and half-rueful for his knowing. "Lots of things, Tiny," she said easily. "Today though? Do you have time before you leave to take on more Strigoi? It sounds creepy, but we need an actual human."

She smirked. "Lissa won't be there though..." Oh yeah, she'd noticed that tiny thing going on there.

Kyle replied to the last comment with a sheepish sidewards glance. He chose to focus on what he was being asked instead. "I was supposed to leave tonight. It's your lucky day even if it's not mine. Portalocity canceled. I won't be going anywhere for another day or two. By 'we' you mean you and Dimitri?"

She'd missed teasing Kyle. She'd miss it more after he left. "Portalocity get confused by the whole random Viking thing?" she checked. "I'd've been sad if I didn't get to see you before you left."

"Yeah, me and Dimitri. We're - still trying to get a lead on this brother or sister Lissa has. But we can't get into a Strigoi den. They can sense dhampirs."

"Plus they're busy with graduation, and portals home have always been complicated. Something about my time being a hot zone. So you need a human. When do we leave?"

"Anytime you're ready," Rose said. "We don't have any normal weapons with us."

She paused. "Anyway, just a human would be easier. You're the only one I know who'd go into a Strigoi nest and come back out again."

That was the nicest compliment she'd ever given him and one hell of a confidence booster. "It's worth trying. I have to go and tell George I haven't left for good." He thought for a moment. "And get some supplies. Explosives? I've been working on some nitroglycerin pipe bombs."

Hey, she gave compliments! ...they were usually just a little backhanded thoug.

"Meet you at the parking lot in an hour or so? We've got a bit of a drive ahead. I'm doing the girly thing and stocking up on food." And music. Dear God, she was sick of country stations. "Pipe bombs are probably a bit much. It's a human neighborhood and all. ANything else though is good."

"Your world is weird." Human neighborhoods. He wasn't used to there being such distinct lines about where the battleground was. "I'll keep to something with a lower profile. One hour."

"Yeah, Reese, it's my world that's weird," Rose snarked though she was smiling. "See you on the Causeway. Don't trip over any Vikings."
