Jake wasn't the kind of guy who usually bothered with politics, but today? Today he had his laptop out on the bar and was refreshing the CBC's website at random intervals, hoping to get updates on election numbers. And there were no sports to be found on the TV in the lounge: just Peter Mansbridge's election night coverage.

"Stupid west coast," he muttered to himself. Why'd they have to be so far behind everyone else, anyway?

[ooc: up early because I have to work. and yes, it's another election reference. SHUT UP, it's not like this sort of thing happens all that oft- er. nevermind.]

Lacey didn't mind the change in temperature much, to tell the truth. The Vikings, on the other hand . . . well, they got a lot of side-eye looks from her. Fandom was much more accommodating of her menu quirks than Dog River had been, but she had no idea how these guys would take it -- and were there health inspectors to worry about, wherever they were now?

That was the question that had her all nervous and flustered as she bustled about the diner today. Really, the only reason she wasn't completely out of her mind with nerves? She'd done her civic duty and cast her absentee ballot last week. Go, team Lacey.

Jack was distracted today. The island moving might have had something to do with it. In fact, it had everything to do with it. This place was crazy.

Kyle had a list of things he wanted to do in Fandom before he went home. Being on hold with Portalocity's customer service was not one of them. He'd waited over an hour in his room, waiting for the annoying music and intermittent service messages to stop. After that, he decided that he wasn't sitting in his room any more.

He made it to the road outside of Luke's when the music finally stopped and the customer service agent spoke. Kyle gave her the details of his portal so he could find out why they wanted him to call back.

"No, my portal is leaving tonight." Pause. "It's been booked for weeks!" Pause. "Maybe it's under a different name." Pause. "Canceled? It can't be canceled. I'm supposed to go tonight. They're waiting for me. I- yes, I know it's a busy weekend. I know, Iceland. There was a viking thing. Re-booking? What is that?"

Kyle frowned at the phone after hanging up. It looked like he wasn't leaving today after all. They'd call him back once they managed to figure out when they could book him a new portal. Damn it.

Karla's night had been long and exhausting and it wasn't until a good hour after her shift technically started that she managed to drag herself into the store. And she set her phone to go off in about a few hours to remind herself to eat something for lunch, even if she was the polar opposite of hungry right now.

Rather than fighting off the desire to nap or fretting more about Triela's condition, Karla turned to make work to keep her hands busy and her mind occupied. After stocking the lube with the edible body paints and the vibrators next to the novelty mugs, however, she was starting to get the feeling that her mind just miiiiiight not be on her work today.

The Gig, Monday [5/2]

Dani would have turned the horses out into the paddock and then searched the Internet for more pictures of the royal wedding. However, the Vikings were making her a little nervous. She had no idea how the horses would react to them, either. So the doors to the barn were shut, the horses were all in their stalls, and Dani was doing her best to entertain them.

Hopefully the horses did not mind hearing all about the royal wedding again...

[The doors are closed, but The Gig is open for business.]

After lying to the DJ and assuring him that of course they were still in Maryland...more or less (Jack might be drunk much of the time, but he could read the stars and they weren't on the same side of the world as they'd been on Saturday), he went on to assure the man that if he played one note more of "Proud to be an American," he would meet painful pointy death on the end of Jack's sword.

The Devil's Nest was open, and not playing twangy and overly sappy patriotic music today, thank ye kindly.

No classes meant Alex was spending her whole day working at the Magic Box. Working meant casting a spell inside the store to make it warm and sunny. She didn't mind the cold but it was May, and she wanted summer weather.

The Magic Box is open!

[OCD is out exploring.]

There were a lot of 'lasts' going on this week. His last shift and the library was yesterday, and today was Jono's last shift at the Groovy Tunes. The musical flavour of the day was Pearl Jam, of course, which probably shouldn't surprise anyone.

And he was spending his time... packing up the things that he'd left in the shop since he'd gotten the job.

He was not making sad faces at things and taking breaks here and there to hug his cat. Shut up.

[OCD-freeeeeeeeee. Naturally.]

Katniss was doing everything in her power to forget that she only had until Friday to prepare. Of course, she'd still train with Peeta and Haymitch when she reached Twelve, but the reaping was only a few days after that. And Fandom's resources were about to become a lost cause to her. She kept thinking of loose ends to tie up -- people she wanted to say goodbye to, strategies she needed to consider. It was more the latter that she found herself dwelling on, as the former was too painful.

And so Monday night, she went to the gym to wait for Jaina. While Katniss was stronger and faster than she'd been before the Quell had been announced, her actual one-on-one training opposite other people had been limited. She knew she couldn't rely too heavily on being able to hide this time, since not only would she be with Peeta the whole time (and she knew how good he was at hiding, sure, but it was likely that all the other victors had perfectly functional hearing), but they all would have seen her strategy the first time around. Hopefully this would help with that complacency, and give her an idea of how she might fare.

Even if she didn't think she'd probably get much opportunity to do so in the arena, when she arrived at the gym, Katniss started stretching out. It would hardly do to pull something now and have to nurse it for the weeks leading up to the Games.

[she's here for Jaina but open gym is open!]
