Luke's Diner | Friday

A new arrival of students and teachers were arriving tomorrow which meant people were leaving as well. There were some goodbyes he had to make when he was off shift but for now, he was trying not to let those goodbyes drag his mood completely down. He chatted with the staff before going to the front and getting things set up and cleaned up.

"Why not?" she wondered, innocently. As innocent as she ever was. "It's the thing to do at parties."

"Yes, but I know you've been curious about how I act while intoxicated for quite a while," Bod pointed out with a laugh. "I can't see that that's changed."

"And I wouldn't get to see that at the party?" Kate asked. "Is that what you're saying? Are you intending to pass out in an undisclosed location, only to be seen again once the hangover has set in?"

"That's not what I was saying," he replied, laughing. "I just wanted to hear you admit that you wanted to see it, not that I was supposed to do that at a party."

"You wanted to hear me admit that?" Kate asked, raising an eyebrow. "Dude, I thought it was obvious!"

"It is but it's still cute to hear you admit it," Bod said, laughing. "It's amusing to me!"

Snickering, Kate leaned a bit more towards him, over her plate. "Boyfriend, I want to see you intoxicated."

There, now she'd stated it with a complete sentence and everything.

"Girlfriend," he said, matching her lean with one of his own, "I will get intoxicated for you."

It was ridiculous how little he had to say to get to her. It didn't need to be dirty, it didn't even need to be straightforwardly affectionate. It just needed to be... him, and she felt stupidly fuzzy and warm.

And another thing that was ridiculous? The grin on her face right now. Good thing he'd probably think it was cute. "Well. Awesome."

He did think it was cute. He loved it, in fact. And while he couldn't really kiss her without climbing over the counter, he could reach a few fingers across and touch them to her lips.

"Yes, I think so too," he agreed with a smile. "Very awesome."

Kate caught his hand with one of hers, so she could press a kiss on his knuckles. "It's a deal, then."

And that was enough to bring a shy, warm smile out of Bod. He didn't say anything right off because he was too busy enjoying that.

"Indeed it is," he finally said, still smiling. "You are lovely."

"You already said that," Kate replied quietly, still holding his hand, still smiling. "Which is not a complaint."

"And I said it again," he replied, smiling, "because it's true and I want you to know it and here it as often as I can say it."

Kate exhaled a laugh and looked down. "Well, if I'm lovely, you're amazing."

And she needed words like that, after the uneven week she'd had.

"Thank you," he said and brought her hand to his lips to kiss them now. "Is there anything else I can do for you today? Need anything else?"

"Nah," she replied with a little shake of her head. "After I finish up here, I'm going to Wonka's and then run some other errands around town. Busy, and stuff."

"Very busy," Bod observed with a nod. "Perhaps you'd like to come by my room later and we can watch a movie in the common room?"

Kate's smile got wider. "Sure," she nodded. "I'd love that. I might even bring popcorn."

"Excellent," Bod said, beaming at her. "I'll bring some of the leftover food from work and we'll make a night of it."

"Excellent," she agreed. "You're an awesome, food-bringing boyfriend and I love you. Can I get a napkin?"

Well, she was done with her lunch now.

"Of course," he said, letting go of her hand and fetching her a few napkins. He handed them across the counter to her. "I love you too."

"Thanks," Kate replied, meaning the napkin, not the returned sentiment. Or maybe it was a bit that too. She wiped her hands and dabbed at her mouth, didn't need to look greasy while running errands. "The food was good."

"I'm glad you stopped by and visited me," Bod said, taking her empty plate and handing it back to some of the staff. "It's made the day much better."

"Likewise," she said as she was getting to her feet again. "I'm so smart for coming here."
