Luke's Diner | Friday

A new arrival of students and teachers were arriving tomorrow which meant people were leaving as well. There were some goodbyes he had to make when he was off shift but for now, he was trying not to let those goodbyes drag his mood completely down. He chatted with the staff before going to the front and getting things set up and cleaned up.

Bod was there and always willing to help those that wanted it!

Kate showed up around lunchtime, all shower fresh since she'd spent most of her morning in the gym and the salle. Her hair, in a loose ponytail as it was, still looked damp.

She was out and about (and had been working out earlier) because the mood in the dorms was making her twitchy, but she smiled a bit as she came up to the counter. "So, this is your workplace, hm?"

"Indeed it is," Bod said, tossing the rag he'd been using to wipe the counters over his shoulder, and stepped closer. "Hullo there, girlfriend. How are you?"

"Lazy," she replied, mostly truthfully. "Worked out. Hungry. You?"

"I'm doing all right," he said and that was the truth. He was dealing with everything and doing fine. "You've worked out? Do I get to see the newly toned muscles on your biceps now?"

Kate snorted. "Maybe later," she said. "I think that might well be too hot for your workplace."

"I'll just have to imagine it, then," Bod decided, nodding. "What can I get you to eat? Anything special?"

"I don't know, the fish and chips sounds good?" she replied, idly eyeing the specials board. "Since it's like the only seafood besides sushi I can actually eat without wanting to puke."

"I can speak well of the fish and chips today," Bod assured her, writing that order down and handing it to the cook. "I had a small portion earlier just to see since it's one of my favorites and it was excellently made."

"I guess that's dependable praise, coming from an Englishman," Kate noted with a faint smirk. "So, how's your week been?"

"It's been all right, I suppose," Bod said, moving to get Kate a drink while her food was prepared. "I've some unfortunate goodbyes to say a little later but I'm excited about the picnic tomorrow. I always enjoy myself. It's a bit of a give and take."

"Mm." Well, that wasn't an outright rejection of the idea, at least. "I'm gonna do the third floor welcome wagon thing again. And this time I'm actually intending to back it up with a party at some point."

"Do I get to be an honorary third floor occupant?" Bod asked, leaning on his elbows and looking hopeful. "I've slept on that floor enough to be granted that, I think."

"I suppose," she replied, quirking a smile. "At least if this isn't a scheme to start sneakily spreading fifth floor agenda instead."

"I'm not a schemer," Bod laughed, shaking his head. "And I didn't even know there was a fifth floor agenda. If there is, no one's informed me. Perhaps I'm an outsider on my own floor."

"Or you're their main operative and under orders not to tell me," Kate retorted lightly. "I've laways found fifth floorers sketchy like that."

"So, all this time you've been suspicious?" Bod asked, frowning at her. He stuck his lower lip out. "Why am I just now learning about this? It's quite sad."

"It's top secret." She reached out to poke that lower lip of his with a finger tip. Gently. "Why would I let people I'm suspicious of know I'm suspicious of them?"

"We're sleeping together," he said and kissed the tip of her finger. "We're dating. We're very close. I would think if you told anyone, it would be me."

"All's fair in love and floor war," Kate replied as she drew her hand away, though not before a brief caress of his cheek. "Sorry."

"You love your floor more than you love me?" he asked, frowning again even more melodramatically than before. "That's saddening."

"My floor was here before you were," Kate pointed out, like the cold-hearted woman she was...pretending to be. "So yes."

"Well, perhaps you should start sleeping with your floor," Bod decided, nodding. "I wouldn't want to rip you away from your first love. I'd feel just awful."

The systems are dooooooooown at work. I hope they stay that way.
