Luke's Diner | Friday

A new arrival of students and teachers were arriving tomorrow which meant people were leaving as well. There were some goodbyes he had to make when he was off shift but for now, he was trying not to let those goodbyes drag his mood completely down. He chatted with the staff before going to the front and getting things set up and cleaned up.

"I don't know if I can be other man in this equation," said Bod, biting his lip. "It'd feel like I was betraying both the floor and myself. I'm sorry."

"Then don't be!" Kate exclaimed, snickering. "Be a man and don't lose your girlfriend to a floor!"

"You've already said you'd choose the floor over me!" Bod pointed out, laughing. "What am I supposed to do?"

"Make me change my mind!" she replied, like it was obvious. "Jesus, do I have to do everything around here?"

"But, if you're happy with the floor, I don't want to stand in the way!" Bod exclaimed, laughing. "It'll make me sad to do so but I'll stand aside and yearn from afar."

"Whyyy?" Kate whined, trying to not let her laughter get in the way of that. "Stand in the way! It's a floor, I'm a chick, it'll never work out anyway!"

"I just don't think I can," he said and sighed, hiding a smile when he ducked his head. "It's just not in my nature to do this. I'll have to wait until you and the floor have gone your separate ways and you're ready for me."

Kate sighed dramatically and shook her head. "You're hopeless."

"I'm sorry," he replied, reaching back to pick up Kate's now ready food so he could slide it in front of her. "I suppose we'll always have this last plate of food before you walk out of my life forever to be with your floor."

"I guess so," she shrugged as she started on her food. "So how are you intending to get up to your room? I don't know if my floor will want your pretty face around."

"I think we can remain on civil terms to allow that," said Bod, nodding. "If not, I'll put in a for a room transfer and make a home on the second floor. There are options. I will survive this setback."

Kate wrinkled her nose. "You are way too optimistic and logical. What happened to the yearning and pining?"

"I can do that while getting on with my life," Bod explained, shrugging. "Perhaps I'll find a floor of my own to be with for all the days of my life."

"Well that sucks," Kate decided. "I think we should rethink this whole thing."

"Do you?" Bod asked, tossing his rag aside and leaning his elbows on the counter. "What should we do instead of our current arrangement?"

"Leave the floors entirely out of it," she replied, nodding. "And ceiings and walls and anything that's supposed to be a part of a house."

"Does that mean you just want me, then?" asked Bod, pretending to be ever so curious.

"Just you," Kate nodded. "You and no one and nothing else. Yes."

"All right," he said and smiled shyly. "You can have me and no one or nothing else but me. I believe this arrangement is the best one we could have made."

"Yeah, me too," she replied, picking up some more chips. "It's simple and streamlined and really pretty obvious as a good choice."

"And looking at the physicality of it, I think we'd fit together better than you and a floor would," Bod said logically.

Kate snickered. "Yeah, the floor really seems a bit too... flat to be any fun."

Bod was surprised that she hadn't gone more detailed than that and he laughed too. "So, you can have me. I hope that's not too disappointing for you in lieu of how amazing your floor sounded."

"Oh, you don't tend to disappoint me." That, she felt, had always been her job, if anything. "Quite the opposite."

"I'm glad," he said, reaching for one of her hands and kissing the top of it. "You're lovely."
