When she came into work today, Kate was still feeling a bit moody over Nathan's abrupt leaving, even though she kept telling herself she'd been expecting him to pull a stunt like that. He was, after all, an awful lot like she herself.

But it still sucked, and that may have contributed to how there wasn't much of a fight over the movie of the day. They were still in Iceland, still surrounded by Vikings, and a somewhat related blockbuster had just opened across the country they were usually part of.

Ramona had been all set to pretend everything was totally fine, and she was not moody for any reason (and whether that was better or worse than having a reason for moodiness, she wasn't sure, anyway.) But when she was walking past the theater into town, it suddenly occurred to her that not only was it Kate's day to work, but that Kate would likely be able to share her anger.

(Not that she had any.)

So she wandered over, hands in her pockets. "Thor, huh? Trying to appeal to the locals?"

Kate shrugged, offering the other girl a very mild wry look. "Box office guy is convinced we should be trying to boost our business via vikings," she shared. "I don't think it's occurred to him that they don't actually have money that's any use to us."

"Unless we sold it to museums," Ramona decided after a moment. "But it also probably doesn't help that they're not particularly familiar with filmaking in general."

"Yeah no," Kate replied, wrinkling her nose. "I'm pretty sure they'll only show up if they think this is a tavern or something." She shook her head. Vikings, so bad for business. She pushed that topic aside. "So, did you come to watch Nordic superheroes with their shirts off, or is this just a random social call?"

"More the latter than the former," Ramona said after thinking about it for a second. "Mostly I - " See, this was tricky, because she had to admit she actually cared, sort of, and that was always hard. Even if it was just Kate, and she suspected they were cut from the same cloth in a lot of ways. She considered the other girl before asking, "Did Nathan actually get it up to say goodbye to you? 'Cause I didn't get the courtesy, and I'm looking for someone to share my righteous indignation."

There. That worked.

Kate rolled her eyes. "Yeah, no goodbyes, I'm pretty sure he snuck out under cover of darkness like a coward," she drawled. "I'm annoyed, though I can't say I didn't see it coming."

"I really don't know why I'm surprised," Ramona agreed, sighing. "It's the dickiest way to do things, and since when has he ever disappointed on that front? Doesn't make me want to fly to England and kick his ass to France any less, but I'm trying to be zen or whatever."

"Personally, I'm waiting for him to call so I can deliver my verbal bitchslap," Kate shared, wrinkling her nose again. "'Cause I'm pretty sure he will, eventually."

"You really think he will?" she wondered, frowning slightly. "I figure we're all already written off. Out of sight, out of mind, et cetera."

And she would have done the same thing. Careful, Ramona, your bitterness is showing.

"I don't know, I think he cares too much," Kate shrugged, and yeah, someone was going to end up even more annoyed at him after she'd realize how much time had passed for him. "I mean, not that he wants to admit it."

After her class today, Cindy decided to check out the movie in honor of their current location--and, who knew? The basic premise suggested this might be a movie to show her students if she ever decided to reteach the class on heroic journeys.

An hour and a half later, Cindy had to restrain herself from throwing popcorn at the screen. 'Heroic journey' was supposed to be something a little more epic than a trip to a small-town diner.

Kate was containing her shock pretty well. Although that may well have been because she wasn't really feeling any.

"Oh, look who decided to show up," she said, dryly, as she wandered in for coffee.

That was also so totally shocking. "I missed the Vikings happening," he added. "Well, not the fight, just the..." Wave hand at the window.

"I'm so surprised." By which she meant not at all. His powers of missing island crazy were astounding. "I'm pretty sure you missed the weekend where I turned into a kid, too."

"Not the first time around?" he tried. "Though that was fairly disturbing."

He briefly thought about going into 'so I met this succubus the other day', but wisely decided no.

"No, I missed it the first time around," Kate replied as she went to the coffee machine. "You missed me going around with a crown and a plastic knife, declaring myself queen."

Which she would've claimed was far more interesting than meeting a succubus, but then she tended to claim a lot of things that weren't necessarily true.

Kate immediately looked indignant. "No I wasn't!" Sure, Kate, sure. "... Okay so I may have freaked Bod out by sneaking off on my own like three times in two days, but it wasn't my fault the dude has no authority."

I just realized how sad it is that the island wasn't in Iceland while Kate was still doing the PVH thing. She so would've pranced around the village in the costume, convincing everyone she was a valkyrie.
