Alice was exploring music related to the name "Alice" today. Why not? Some group had called itself Alice in Chains, and while she didn't approve of them symbolically placing her in chains, she had to admit the music itself was stirring.

Groovy Tunes was open.

Why you act crazy?

Seifer had planned to get back to the shop the week before, but some days it was just too damn cold to venture into town.

What? He liked 80+ degree weather. Anything below 60 was too damn cold.

He liked the music that was playing today though.

"So, which group do I have to buy the CD of today?" He asked the chick there. "And who do I talk to about a job?"

"Both of those answers are Alice, the chains being optional," was the girl's reply.

... Welcome to life with the crazy girl, Seifer.

"Alice Liddell, it rhymes with fiddle. I've no chains, but whoever's making this music does."

She found the CD case she was looking for, and held it out (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jar_of_Flies) towards him.

"Okay, then," Seifer said as he took the case. He looked it over and nodded. "Cool. Um, I'm Seifer Almasy, and Ariel told me to come back in and ask about a job."

"And so you have," Alice said brightly. "You've returned, and you have asked. I'm the one you were to ask. What questions were you seeking to ask? You've only really asked about asking about a job, and not asked about the job itself. And now I'm asking you about you asking about asking about the job, so every sentence takes us further from our objective."

Her eyes were dancing. Because she enjoyed playing with words, that was why.

Alice, please don't mind that absent look in Seifer's eyes. He's trying to parse that sentence.

And here he'd thought he'd gotten away from the cracky madness that surrounded Selphie.

"Okay. Do you have any job openings, and if so, may I work here?" He paused. "Yeah. I think that takes us back to the objective." His head was starting to hurt again.

Selphie was just kooky. Alice was full-on insane.

"Much better," she said warmly. "Yes, and yes, to both, in no particular order. In fact, yes, yes, and yes, if we include your last sentence which isn't a question. I believe we're on the objective now. Or we were, before I backed us up again. You may chastise me thoroughly if you like."

Or throttle her. One of the two.

"I've no formal hiring process. You're hired. What days would be conducive to your schedule? Oh, and you must promise me that you won't steal from the cash register or smash any of the music discs. Unless they're Creed, in which case, smashing is highly encouraged for the sake of humanity."

Chastising wasn't going to happen, but Seifer might be hitting George up for another vicodin. Or finding some of that tylenol shit she was talking about.

"Um, Friday would be best, if it's okay that I come in after my class. First period, with that Winchester guy. And no on the stealing, I left that to the ninjas in school. I'm too bulky to pull it off." He'd make a note of the Creed thing.

"I trust you," Alice said, doing her best to look serious. "I only thought, as manager, that I might pretend to some level of responsibility. I'm practicing for my future, though I'm doing a poor job thus far. Opening after class is fine. There are ninjas in your school?"

"Cool." That was unpainful, which was not what he was expecting. "And yeah, some of the kids trained to be ninjas."

"For a job, or for fun?" Alice asked. "One wonders how early children need decide these things. Ninja skills seem more easily taught to the young, but the younger one is, the less one is able to decide for one's self."

"For a job. And most of them, end up there because no place to go, or the parents want them to have a 'better future'." Yes, Seifer included the finger quotes.

"But you're skeptical as to how 'better' that future is," Alice mused. "So you wouldn't recommend ninja training to prospective parents, you might say?"

Hypothetically. To any prospective parents he might know.

"Not when they're younger than twelve, no. Let them be kids, you know." Because that was what he missed after Garden.

"I agree," she nodded. "No one should be forced to grow up too early. There's time enough for that later on, isn't there?"

Not an act, maybe
