Belle certainly approved more of these surroundings than their previous ones -- rain, though nice for a day, hardly needed to go on for weeks -- and the bright, arid sunniness lifted her somewhat dampened spirits.

She'd spent the weekend holed up in her office on a rather severe reading binge (she was now well versed in both world wars, and the culture surrounding the two!) and had missed the majority of the oddness ~~because I was afk, dammit~~ and the warmth of the island's new home had her taking one of her books (Women and the Home Front During World War II today, for thoroughness) on a walk through town to get some tea in the mid-afternoon.

Eventually, she settled at a table in the Perk with her tea, absorbed in the book but still glancing up with a slight smile when anyone new entered.
