Lacey had gotten a new blend of organic fair trade coffee in today; this was a good way to start the week, if you asked her, and it put a spring in a step and a lilt in her voice for about the first hour of the day.

When she happened to overhear the kitchen staff in the middle of a spirited discussion about whether anyone would notice if they replaced the fuel in someone's tank with the (as it turned out, really potent) coffee, it deflated her bubble a little -- which put her back down to about normal, tolerable levels of Lacey-chipper. So really, that all worked out.

She'd be keeping the coffee under close surveillance, though.

Angelica wasn't sure what to make yet of the island's new home, but she was excited the rain and gloom had finally ended, and so were the horses. All of them were anxious for some exercise, and Angelica was just as eager to ride. "I'll get to each of you, promise," she said, saddling up Duke first. Kally was letting her know in no uncertain terms that she was next.

The Gig was open for any and all who wanted some practice riding before exploring the wild wild west.

Momoko was avoiding more of the TOTALLY EVIL judge's cases by taking the time to look up some of the citations she'd noted from earlier ones. It was boring and difficult, trying to track down the different precedents, decisions, opinions, and judicial reviews in all of Ms Cabot's books and files, but it was totally less depressing than reading actual cases full of witnesses crying and the judge being... well, judgmental.

Although at least the case files were in English: "What does 'lex lata' even mean? 'vigilantibus non dormientibus aequitas subvenit'??"

Momoko sighed. She was totally going to need to learn another language, wasn't she?

Belle certainly approved more of these surroundings than their previous ones -- rain, though nice for a day, hardly needed to go on for weeks -- and the bright, arid sunniness lifted her somewhat dampened spirits.

She'd spent the weekend holed up in her office on a rather severe reading binge (she was now well versed in both world wars, and the culture surrounding the two!) and had missed the majority of the oddness because I was afk, dammit and the warmth of the island's new home had her taking one of her books (Women and the Home Front During World War II today, for thoroughness) on a walk through town to get some tea in the mid-afternoon.

Eventually, she settled at a table in the Perk with her tea, absorbed in the book but still glancing up with a slight smile when anyone new entered.

[i have neglected my kids so badly in the last few weeks. stupid RL. open like a thing!]

Jack was so glad that they were out of the rain, even if it was still a little cool and unhumid for his preferences. Tiny was in the back room kicking the hell out of a ukelele (for once, Jack didn't ask), and so Jack sat behind the bar trying to set up a shot glass pyramid.

The locals seemed like the hard-drinkin' type.
