Ariel was absolutely ecstatic. A shipment of new accessories and dresses and such had come in and they were all right up her alley. She was half tempted to covet them all for herself, but, with the impression that perhaps seashells could be hot this season, she happily did some rearranging around the store to put them out front and center.

The floofy dress was so totally hers, though. And, even better, she found some matching shoes to go with it.

This made it a very good day.

Oh, good, Ariel was at work--unlike Jenny, usually--which boded well for Jenny's plan. "Ariel, listen--" she began, but trailed off when she saw all the seashelly...things. "Jesus Christ, what is this?"

"Oh, hey, Jenny!" Ariel smiled at the other girl, who just proved that the moving things around to garner attention was working. "They just came in; aren't they great? Perfect for summer, but I am a little biased toward seashells."

"Well, they're very..." right. Jenny was going to be leaving the island soon and she didn't care anyway. Which was why she was here. The leaving, not the not caring. "How do you feel about taking a little more responsibility around here?" As in, all of it.

Ariel was about to supply the missing word, with something like awesome or wonderful, but Jenny effectively distracted her with the last part.

"Really?" To say she was surprised was an understatement; she'd never really figured Jenny thought she was much of an employee, but, on the other hand, she didn't miss her shifts here nearly as much as she did at Groovy Tunes. "Like what? A promotion or something?"

Not missing most of her shifts put her one up on Jenny, at least. "Exactly. You know how I graduated?" she asked, and then continued without waiting for Ariel's response. "Well, I'll be leaving in a few weeks to have some fun before I give this 'university' thing a try." Jenny sounded doubtful as to how that would go. "So someone else is going to have to take over managing this place."

Forget today being a good day due to unexpected seashells. This whole week, Ariel realized, was turning out to be incredible.

"And you're saying that maybe that someone should be me?" she tried, each word dripping with the hope of someone who had already decided that it should be her.

"Well, you've been an employee for quite some time, now, haven't you?" Jenny asked. She forgot, but it seemed like it had been a while. "It's quite a bit of work." If you, unlike Jenny, actually did it. It was a miracle this place was still above water. "There's payroll and hiring and such, and everything with the inventory." Oh God. Ariel doing the ordering. Everything would be pink and covered with seashells, Jenny suspected. "Of course, half the time what you order isn't what shows up anyway," she warned.

With each remark Jenny made, no matter how negative she may have wanted it to be, Ariel's eyes kept getting wider and wider, and her hands were creeping up close to her chin. "I can do that!" she said. "I can definitely do that!"

Heck, if Jenny could do that....

"I'd love to do that!"

"Smashing!" Jenny declared, and it was. It was on its way to no longer being her problem. "The job is yours."

"Great!" Ariel bounced a little, as was appropriate to the situation. "Do I start today? Are you going to show me all the ropes before you leave? Teach me everything I'll need to know?"

Pause.

"Give me free reign over the liquor cabinet?"

Hey, there were some really pretty bottles in that liquor cabinet.

"How about you start next week?" Jenny suggested. "Then I can show you what to do today and put things in order on Friday." And take some of the best liquor with her. "And I don't know about everything you'll need to know, but I'm sure you'll catch on quickly if I miss anything. Here, let me show you handwavily how the computer programs work. It's dull stuff, but sadly necessary."

Freddie didn't actually know that Ariel worked here, but he was on the lookout for stuff that might be good for iCarly skits and costumes, so he'd wandered in after his class that day.

"Oh, hey Ariel," he greeted with a smile. "You work here?"

"Oh, Freddie, hi!" Ariel had just finished hanging a rack of dresses (http://www.dressingvintage.com/vintage-womens/dresses-and-suits/day/3158-Vintage%20Valentino%20silk%20dress.html) when Freddie came through the door and she finished with a nod. "Sure do! At the music store, too! You need some new clothes?"

"I was just coming in to see if there was anything weird and different we might use on the show, actually," Freddie said. "Though it seems like maybe this place has more fancy stuff than I expected."

"Different, yes," Ariel said with a smirk. "Weird...well, that depends on if you think looking awesome is weird. And, yeah, it's pretty fancy, but it's really nice stuff."

"And that's probably exactly why I shouldn't get any of this. Nice stuff would just get abused on our show, knowing Sam and Carly's writing. I mean, we made Jack sit in Cheetos, the other week," Freddie said.

Ariel looked momentarily aghast. "Sit on Cheetos? Why would you ever want to waste perfectly good Cheetos like that?"

And yet, despite her shock, she still couldn't help giggling a little when she took a second to think about it. "What the heck kind of show is this, anyway?"

"It's a web show," Freddie said. "We broadcast to the internet, and usually a bunch of people our age and even older tune in to watch Sam and Carly do weird skits and cracks jokes, and we sometimes have guests that do stuff, too."

"Well, the latter helps, though it's not always Cheetos," Freddie said with a chuckle. "But we have people on for other stuff, too. Like if they have a talent to show off or they can do something really weird like squirt milk out of their eye."

"Milk out of their eyes?" asked Ariel, who laughed a little until she realized that you see much worse coming out of the orifices of undersea creatures, really. "Well, I can't do anything like that, but it still sounds like a lot of fun. Oh, maybe you could check out Things Reborn; they always have some really neat stuff, and for a lot cheaper than here. Or the junkyard. You can find all sorts of great things there!"
