Mystery Sign Theatre 3000, Wednesday

Kate was a little thoughtful at work today. Nothing major, just various little things that had her getting distracted from checking the sell-by dates of the goods in the concession stand. Not that those really needed to be checked right now anyway, but it was something to do.

You know, if she'd had the focus to really need to be doing anything. Mostly she just ended up doodling idly into a notebook while she waited to see whether anyone would wander in to see the movie.

"That title," he announced, "sounds like a science lecture. Hello."

"Well, I guess the movie is sorta based on the chaos theory," Kate greeted him back from behind her stand, not yet as pissed off as she was to be later. "Hey, Jack."

"Eh," Kate shrugged, like that said everything. "I think I might be in something of a mellow patch right now. Thinky, but no immediate major catastrophe in sight."

Jack quirked an eyebrow, wondering if Kate was intentionally tempting fate.

No, maybe things were just ... sort of nice. For once.

"No catastrophes here either," he confirmed. "We saw an oracle in Atlantis Monday. I'm supposed to stay on islands and avoid wolves, but I suppose it was good for a laugh."

Well, at least Kate hadn't claimed her mellow patch had lasted long, or that she expected it to hold out for much longer.

"I don't know, both sound like reasonable advice," she noted, shrugging again. "Well, the wolves thing anyway."

"And I wouldn't go out, anymore than I would if we were dumped someplace with dinosaurs rampaging about." Which came with the quirk of Jack's lips that, generally, meant Kate was right but he wasn't about to admit it so easily. "Emma's going to be a queen. Allegedly. I think the oracle was trying to feed her ego."

"And did that really need feeding?" Not that Emma wasn't magnificent. "Think I'm gonna pass on visiting an oracle. I'm pretty sure I'd hear something bad and paranoid my way into a mental institution."

Or just try and trick herself into not thinking about it. That may have been happening recently.

Mitchell did come into the office around noon, but he was in a rush: going through drawers in his desk, poking around the computer. He was searching for something, and he didn't intend to stay long.

Kate wandered in for a coffee refill for the mug in her hand, but stopped to lean against the doorframe, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh good," she said, tone a bit dry, "I thought we had some highly desperate robbers in."

"I don't have the time, Kate," Mitchell said, pulling open the lowest drawer. He rummaged through its contents without looking up.

Kate's eyebrows shot up at that greeting. "Nice to see you too, Mitchell," she drawled, masking just how worried he'd managed to get her with just a few words as she went to the coffee machine to grab the pot. "I've been great, thanks."

Mitchell shoved the drawer shut again, then resorted to upending the bin. "I'm glad," he said, distractedly.

Goddammit, what was the name of that church?

"Yeah, I'm sure you are," Kate muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes. Mug refilled, she leaned a hip against the desk. "What the hell are you doing, Mitchell?"

"I'm trying to find anything that can tell me what church Lucy goes to," Mitchell said, going through the documents on his desk. Again. "It's on the tip of my tongue..."

Yeah, like he'd let her in on stuff like 'I used to be the vampire king of bristol, but then my girlfriend used me to blow up all the vampires'. Or 'Eric stopped me from going on a murder spree by getting me involved in an inadvisable threesome', for that matter.

Kate would've merely countered with 'I was vampire princess of Fandom for a weekend until Bo did a weirdly hot energy sucking thing to me'. Even if it was incomparable (though eerily similar) and she would've only said it to deal with not being able to deal.

But that was neither here nor there.

"Wait, Lucy as in your girlfriend Lucy?" Kate asked, dry tone vanishing in favor of a slightly more confused one. "So help me, if this is some idiotic thing where you're marrying her and have forgotten where the church is --"

Yeah, Kate was never going to get to lower her eyebrows now, was she? "And you think she might be at her church?" she questioned. "Any particular reason?"

Except him thinking she was hiding from him. Kate thought that might be a good enough reason.

Various stages of SP from me today as I try to do useful stuff. I should be around pretty constantly in my evening though.

In other news, wah, show, why'd you have to go and get cancelled? I'm still depressed. I'm happy with the finale but sad that it's all over.
