Cafe Luke's, Monday

Vincent was a bit surprised by just how much more "rolling with it" he had to do in Fandom than in Eureka. He would have sworn up and down that Eureka was the weirdest place to live and work, day to day, but Fandom was definitely beating it out.

And now it was cold and snowing. Though, hey, it wasn't snowing inside, so that was always a bonus.

Lingonberry, brie, and pistachio pizza
Bavarian hot cocoa

Luke's was open. If you ask nicely, Vincent might even break out the Pfeffernüsse.

"Huh," Ronan said, wandering in for his lunchbreak. "This place seems to have changed."

"That's what I'm told," Vincent said. "But that's bound to happen when two restaurants are merged together at the quantum level."

Ronan blinked. "Huh. Magic, science, or 'Fandom did it, we don't know how'?"

Science, but it wasn't like Vincent could just start babbling on about Eureka and how stuff like this seemed to happen every week there.

So he simply shrugged. "All I know is, I went to bed in my loft above Cafe Fina, and woke up in a loft above 'Cafe Luke's'."

"Huh. Good to know," Ronan said.

"... So how about a bowl of the traditional Irish stew?" he asked. "I'd be curious to see how close it is to what my mum used to make." Hey, if you're going to call it 'Irish', be prepared to have the Irishman pass judgement!

"I'd be honored," Vincent said with complete honesty. "We've had it simmering on the fire since this morning, it should be just about perfect, now!"

Yes, he meant over an actual fire. Vincent's kitchen had everything a chef might need, including an open hearth for getting really traditional.

"An actual fire?" Ronan asked, laughing a bit. "That officially makes it more traditional than my mother, yes."

"It gives it that extra hint of smokey peat," Vincent said happily.

Okay, so he hadn't actually managed to get real peat to burn for the fire, but, hey, it was the thought that counted, right?

"I officially like this place already," Ronan said. "I don't suppose you use stout in the stew? Or would that be giving away a trade secret?"

"Just a hint," Vincent told him. "Enough to add that extra kick, without overpowering the rest of the ingredients. If you want more than that, I can add some to a batch, but it'll take a little while to cook."

Vincent would make anything, so long as the patron had the patience to wait on it.

Ronan shook his head. "Perhaps another time," he allowed. "I'm only on my lunch break." He couldn't help but smile though, as he added, "I will, however, take a mug of the cocoa, if you can add some chili pepper."

"Helloooo?" Alistair asked, peeking his head in. "I'm not a pony anymore. Uh, obviously. Could I still get a meal...?"

Vincent looked around. "There's no sign saying 'ponies only'," he pointed out. "Come on it. What can I get you?"

Alistair pointed helpfully at the specials board. "Those sound like good starters," he said. Yes, starters. "I mean, not that last week's spread wasn't really good, but as it turns out when I'm human I'm not really the grassy type."

"Few of us are," Vincent assured him. "One chef's special, coming right up!" He hurried back into the kitchen, then returned with a large, steaming bowl of stew, a full pizza, and his largest cup of hot chocolate.

He'd figured out that Alistair was a man of large appetites, yes.

"I like what you did with the bread and the tiny tomatoes," Alistair praised. Look, he wasn't a food critic, and he didn't actually know what the pizza was. "It looks festive."

His stomach growled. At least he could sit down this time around.

To his credit, Vincent barely blinked at that. He was used to Jack as a customer, after all. "Yes, it's a very colorful dish. Let me know what you think of it."

"Oh, and do you have any boar?" Alistair asked. Not that he waited to hear an answer to that, as he dug into the stew with gusto.

Seriously hungry.

Vincent actually had to think about that for a moment -- he didn't get much call for boar. "Yes," he said. "I try to keep some on hand for when I'm in a French-ier mood."

"Oooh, I'll have a boiled one of that," Alistair said, "And maybe some more of those cheeses you've got?"

"The little ones?" Honestly, Vincent had a lot of cheese. "And did you say 'boiled', or 'broiled'?"

He was really hoping that Alistair meant the latter.

"That last one," Alistair said, encouragingly. "And yes, the little ones-- wait, does that mean you've got more cheese?"

Vincent was quickly becoming his favorite person on the island.
