Caritas, Sunday, 7/24

Newly registered for classes for the fall semester, Jack devoted any time he didn't spend serving customers to reviewing his Greek and Latin in preparation for his first university-level seminar in classical languages. He hadn't used them much in the last few years; he was convinced he was rusty.

For a part-time bartender, Jack was kind of an enormous nerd. At least he had the grace to sip a beer as he read.

Hook sauntered jollily into the establishment and sat down at the bar. He wore his usual grand captain's outfit, including the large hat. He mulled over his options for a moment, tapping the side of his hook against his chin.

Eventually, he spoke. "I do think today is a good day for a fine white wine," he said.

"The house white is perfectly fine, perfectly fine," Hook said. "Given the nature of most wine in Neverland, I'm sure it will be a far better thing to pass my lips than the swill that was the best of choices there. And right now I'd drink anything to warm the core of the body, given the weather, of course."

"Try living on a world where there are many moons and suns, and time can flow sideways," Hook said. "But it was never truly winter there, which was the finest point. Though that did mean it was never Christmas."

He chuckled and then raised his glass. "To summers being sunny and warm and all that."

It seemed a little bit pathetic to bundle up and go to the local tavern just to drink and talk with the bartender, and so Jane took the advantage to be social when she recognized one of her fellow teachers. Granted, she hadn't spoken to Hook since...goodness, probably that three minute date event, but he was a character easily remembered.

"Good evening, Captain," she greeted with a smile and a nod of her head. "I trust the evening is seeing you well?"

"Oh, I find most every evening finds me quite well, milady," Hook said with a charming little shark's grin. "I do hope the evening finds you likewise. Terrible weather we're having, isn't it?"

"I suppose that all depends on your perspective," Jane offered conversationally. "For the summer time in Maryland, quite terrible indeed! But as for being in the middle of what I'm quite sure is an Ice Age, it's really quite lovely!"

Jane was feeling terribly bored that evening and she figured that, if anything, getting everything on to go outside would be a great way to kill some time. And if she was going through the trouble of getting bundled up, she may as well go somewhere, and why not let that place be the bar for a nice little sip of something to celebrate?

She began removing some of her warmth once inside as she put in her request, "Please tell me you can make me something nice and hot and comforting."

She hoped the alcoholic part went without saying, this being a bar and all. That was important, but it didn't seem ladylike to mention it.

"Oh, well, let's see," said Jane, looking thoughtful for a moment before she smiled. "I believe the gentleman's first suggestion sounds like just the thing. Thank you!"

"Last time I saw you, weren't you on this side of the bar?" Dick asked when he took a seat at the bar.

"I'm teaching a class on being a daredevil and haven't killed any kids yet," Dick said. "That has to count for something."

It's okay, he wasn't going to kill anyone. There were safety protocols.

"Still here, huh?" Guy said, taking a seat at the bar.

"In the bottle this time." Saucers weren't necessary.
