Ben was in his usual job today, but he was difficult to find: he was spending most of the day in the back looking for a specific (and unfortunately teeny tiny) part for his astromech droid project.

If you yelled loud enough, he might hear you, though...

Ender turned up with a bag of take-out from Cafe Luke's and an unrelenting love of SP born from tradition. "Found it yet?" he asked.

There was a bang, then a curse, then a very whiny "No," before Ben emerged from the back looking dusty as he rubbed his head.

"Ho, kreetle."

"Ho, cobweb," Ender supplied, putting the food down on the table. "I come bearing skewers, but if this is a bad time..."

"No, lunch is a good idea," Ben said with a smile. "Let me go wash my hands first. Pretty sure I found a mouse back there."

"Long-abandoned droid or a real one?" Ender asked, fishing through the Cafe Luke's bag for the burgers he'd asked Bod for.

"Long-abandoned real one," Ben said, making a face.

"Time to tell Howard to buy some environmentally-friendly rat traps," Ender said, setting the burgers down on the desk - and then the skewers.

"I'm sure he'll love to hear that," Ben said dryly.

"Or you could build one," Ender suggested.

Ben snickered. "Build a better mousetrap? That sounds like some kind of setup."

Ender chuckled. "But it might keep you busy," he pointed out. "And I promised Warren I'd be keeping you from adding anything else extravagant to his car."

"That sounds like less fun," Ben offered, "and I still believe that all minivans should fly."

"Mmm, but we're not fixing this car up for you," Ender pointed out, sensibly. "He'd also like you to remove the weapons systems."

Ben looked surprised. "Really?"

"Really," Ender agreed. "He's far more afraid that he might hit a wrong button and kill something than he is to get attacked while he's on board. He's still mostly a civilian, Ben."

"Ohhhhhh," Ben breathed. "I keep forgetting that part."

Or ignoring it. One of those.

"Not even if the button was really well-labeled?"

"I think he'd be less nervous about driving it if you just took it out completely," Ender said, his expression set firmly to 'diplomatic'.

Ben smiled in reply. "Fine," he said. "I'll talk to Tony about it."

"Good," Ender said, "Thanks." He leaned over on the counter. "Warren seems to have trouble saying 'no'."

It would explain why he kept eating Karla's cookies.

Ben nodded and scooted the bag of food closer. "A little," he agreed, "and I don't want to take advantage of his generosity."

Ender quirked a smile. "We can always get you a third-hand car to play with," he said. "Provided you don't try to fly it in public."

"What counts as public?" Ben asked, grinning back.

"In front of other people," Ender said, "That aren't Tony, Warren, Karla, or me."

"You are no fun at all," Ben decided.

"And you're a trouble magnet," Ender replied. "I need to cancel you out."
