It had been a long time since Jaina'd been here. Or, at least, it'd been a long time since she'd been here when she wasn't hanging on her supposedly-dead true-love-or-whatever Charles, which she didn't think really counted.

This did not stop Jaina from feeling comfortable enough to stop Tino from pouring the drink she ordered in order to go and wash her glass out from the fake spiderwebs first. And then to be safe she made her own drink before reclaiming her seat. Tino could decorate away.

"Interesting decor," Eric commented as he walked in a few minutes later and found a seat next to her.

"You might not know it's Halloween without it," she said with a smile. "Hi, supposed future husband."

She was obviously taking that reading super seriously, of course.

Eric blinked. "Fortune teller?" he asked hopefully.

"Fortune teller," she nodded. "Who, by the way, I've seen her before and she's given me two wildly conflicting fortunes, so."

"So it won't be too heartbreaking to hear that I'm apparently going to run off and marry your grandfather and live in a shack in Paris?" Eric replied.

Jaina choked on her drink.

"Wait, you're going to what?" she asked, coughing once.

"And drive a used minivan," Eric added, making a face, "so I don't think she's that accurate."

She cleared her throat, but had to smile. "Wait, why did the used minivan get you to make that face when being my..." She had to think. "...alternate universe step-step-grandfather didn't?"

"Well, I've seen a used minivan and I know I'd never drive that," Eric said after a moment. "I've never met your grandfather."

"I hate to break it to you, hon, but I think your priorities are maybe slightly different than most people's," she decided.

"Hon?" Eric repeated, grinning.

He lived in the South and knew Sookie, but it still amused him when people used terms of endearment for him.

"I've warned you about this. Words like 'hon' just happen and you have to deal," she laughed. Though it was a relief that he didn't get weird about it when she really did hear words thrown around like that all the time.

He shifted in the bar stool so his knee brushed against hers. "I know but it's still...entertaining to hear. I get a lot more 'please don't kill me' than I get 'hon'."

Jaina paused, considering those words. It was knee brushing mixed with a 'please don't kill me' mention. "I don't know if I'm glad to hear that or not..."

That he wasn't surprised to hear. "Now that I get a lot too."

"Not a shock," she said, "considering I'm pretty sure I've had to say that once or twice before..."

"I've been told I'm a little--" he waved his hand vaguely.

Terrifying, probably.

"Vaguely scary?" she finished. She'd never had reason to be scared of him, but she was also planning to keep it that way.

"There's that," Eric admitted. "But really, if a vampire isn't a little intimidating, what's the point?"
