The hotel's staff had never worked a Darling birthday party before. By the time Juliet was done working them over and making sure everything looked right and sounded right and was almost as good as it would have been in New York, it was entirely possible they never would again. Still, the room looked amazing, so Juliet figured it was worth it.

The ballroom had been set up for a party, with a DJ booth to the side of the stage where Hannah Montana was scheduled to perform, a dance floor taking up most of the center of the room, and a few tables and chairs off to the side for wallflowers. Most of the drinks available were non-alcoholic, but there was probably some champagne around if you asked nicely or bribed the bartender. A gold -and-silver banner hung over the stage:

(And yes, there'd been some spirited discussion as to whose name went first. Alphabetical order carried the day.) A ~~completely handwavy~~ email had been sent out days before inviting the student body to the party; now all that was left was to wait for the guests.

The DJ's set is mostly pop hits with a hipster edge, but you can make requests.

Around the middle of the evening, the DJ stopped playing and Hannah ~~hopefully~~ took the stage.

It was still early in the party, but Juliet was happy. So far, everything seemed just perfect.

Jeremy was happy too. He thought he looked pretty dapper in his shiny new Ferragamo suit, and even if he hadn't... Well, this was their freaking birthday party, what was there not to like?

He also totally had champagne in his glass. Come on, this was a party!

"Jeremy," Juliet said, in a tone of greatest urgency. "I have to tell you about this psychic I went to yesterday."

She thought his suit was awesome, but she had a soft spot for her dress (http://www.bluefly.com/Betsey-Johnson-azure-silk-Shake-Your-Groove-Thing-strapless-ruffled-dress/cat20114/312369201/detail.fly) too.

Awesome clothes aside, Jeremy's eyebrows knitted together a little. "Huh? You went to a psychic without me?"

Yeah, that's what you get for going home alone for a weekend, Jerms.

"Hey, y'all!" ~~Miley~~ Hannah (http://www.polyvore.com/new_hannah_montana_outfit/thing?id=5828339) chirped as she sauntered on stage. "I'd just like to say a huge happy birthday to my fans Jeremy and Juliet! Give it up for them, everybody!"

After the ~~assumed~~ cheers, she turned to her band and counted off, "A-one, two, one, two, three, go!"

And then she launched into "Let's Get Crazy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9U2crIYoAms#t=28s)," which was followed by an assortment of pop songs both hers and covers of songs she knew the twins liked. Though she did seem to take awfully long breaks after every few songs, she also made sure to make herself available to anyone who might want a picture or autograph. She was classy that way.

If Miley was flustered and only around before and after Hannah Montana's performance, she really hoped nobody noticed.

She also hoped nobody noticed that her hair was kind of messy after the set, totally not from having worn a wig or anything. No. Totally not.

"Well yeah, she was just in a tent for the day," Tara said defensively. "I asked her about you!"

True, booking a pop star to play a seventeenth birthday party was considered a very generous gift. Actually being said pop star and doing the performance was also considered fairly generous.

And yet two (http://www.polyvore.com/lord_taylor_sapphire_butterfly_pendant/thing?id=42827487) presents (http://www.louisvuitton.com/web/flash/index.jsp?direct1=cate&direct2=homme&direct3=cat10021&direct4=cat1410108&direct5=cat1410117&direct6=prod10730&langue=en_US&buy=1), meticulously wrapped in sparkle paper, appeared on the table at some point during the party, with big, colorful cards attached. And yes, the card for Jeremy had a heart near his name. Don't you judge.

And if her handwriting happened to look a lot like the handwriting on the birthday card in the pile that was signed by Hannah Montana, well, that didn't mean anything.

"Yeah? What did she say?" Jeremy asked, somewhat appeased. The champagne helped. So did the fact that he didn't really believe in psychics. It was just the principle of the thing. "Anything good?"

"Hannah was amazing," Juliet told Miley, after the set. "And, uh ... i think there's some hairspray in the ladies room if you want it." She lowered her voice. "Is Dave here?"

"Only that I'm going to marry Robert Pattinson and be on a reality show in Hawaii," Juliet said gleefully. "Seriously, isn't that the best ever?"

She knew he had a girlfriend, but so what? It wasn't like she'd even met him in real life.

"Oh, thanks," Miley blurted gratefully, because yeah, messy hair was a total party foul. "And god, I hope not. Why?"

"I thought maybe, the hair..." Juliet said delicately. "Nothing. It's silly. did you see the set?"

Yeah, in her head Dave and Miley had totally spent it making out. SORRY.

OH GOD, EW. NEVER.

Miley narrowed her eyes slightly at the Dave reference, in a very you're-my-friend-so-have-a-free-deathglare sort of way, then let it pass. FOR NOW.

"Yeah, isn't Hannah awesome?" she said breezily. "And totally pretty, too."

Jeremy made a slight face. "I hope that doesn't mean I'm gonna marry Kristen Stewart."

That worry totally made sense. In his head. He sipped some more of his champagne. "I think that would be a bummer."

"Heeey, Miley," Jeremy greeted her with a wide grin as he wandered over, glass of champagne in hand. He probably wasn't going to give it up all evening, actually. "Glad you could make it!"

Jack had met Juliet and Jeremy... maybe once before?

But he figured he could make it the party, have a little fun and still make it back to his room to see the end of the World series. In the meantime Jack had some food and a non-alcoholic drink to enjoy as he people watched.

"Hey!" she said brightly, beaming at him. "Thanks. Yeah, I totally couldn't pass this up."

Except for the part when Hannah was performing, of course. That, she could pass up.

"Great party, BTW. Love the DJ."
