Groovy Tunes - Sunday

Seifer had missed work on Friday, but he'd had a good excuse. He had been studying for the SATs. He thought he'd done okay on it, but he was worried about the Critical Reading section.

And unlike some people he'd heard about on the radio, he had kicked ass on the math part.

Today he was at Groovy Tunes, going through college websites online and printing off the applications of the ones that looked interested.

He might as well be prepared for when the test scores came in, right?

Kenzi was long overdue for visiting Seifer at work, but it was a lazy Sunday, and a good time to do it. "Hey, dude. Muuuusic."

Seifer just shoved the papers to the side and grinned. "Yes, and we even sell it."

"Woo!" Kenzi leaned against the counter, and started picking through what was within reach. "So, what's your fave in this world so far? And are you gonna give me a discount?" You had to ask to get!

"Well, mainstream stuff would be Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Velvet Revolver," he said as he moved the pile new releases toward her. "I'm finding I like bands like Otep, Kidneythieves, Godhead and Slipknot more though."

Kenzi grinned. "Why those? The masks? Or what?" She poked at the pile. "Play me some!"

Seifer reached over to his laptop and pulled iTunes, and clicked on the live version of 'Before I'm Dead' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OjeWAMGR1s&sns=em). "This is Kidneythieves," he told her.

Kenzi was already bouncing on her toes and bobbing along with it by the first few guitar chords. "Groin rock!" she called over the noise.

There was a nod and grin as Seifer tapped his fingers in time to the music.

"That. I'll take one of those," Kenzi decided, boosting herself onto the counter and kicking her heels in the air. "So what's shakin', bacon? Or is that a bad question when you have Professor Madrox's class?"

Seifer nodded and rang up the disc she wanted, and slipped in a few others under the 'loaner' discount he'd thought up for himself.

"Dude is just crazy, but not much. Took the SAT test yesterday, and now I'm filling out college apps." It felt weird just to say it. "The hard part is figuring out where I want to go."

"How do you think you did?" Kenzi asked, idly playing with the other CD's around the register, examining them. "And college. Wow. You have the money?" she checked, half-envious, half not.

"I think I did okay. The math section was pretty easy, I think it's the writing and reading sections that could hold up my score. I don't really think like most of the people who take it."

He held up a form on scholarships and loans. "Turns out, they'll give lots of money and handouts to orphans if your scores are high enough. Who knew? I figure I might have to pay to have someone do a little paperwork for me."

"Hunh." Kenzi scooted up closer, eyebrows going up. "I have cousins who could do that. And Topher could fake up the computer background here, you know? Are you still thinking west coast, like you talked about before?"

"Topher, huh? I'll have to talk to him, figure out a story for me. And yeah, Seattle or someplace outside of Los Angeles. The surfing is better in California."

"It's a ways away." Kenzi cocked her head. "But you're already outside your own world, sooo.... whatcha gonna get into? Or are you gonna figure it out when you get there?"

"I think I'm going to figure it out when I get there." He grinned and shrugged. "After I spend a year doing all those wonderful college type things."

"Then you should definitely hit one of those California schools, so you can surf your way into good grades." She grinned and reached out to poke him. "You're not allowed to just disappear, you know. You have to come back for Homecoming and stuff."

"I don't remember that being in the contract I signed," Seifer joked.

"It was in the fine print!" Kenzi insisted, grinning. "You think I wouldn't put a clause like that in there?"

Yeah, I sucked massively last week. And the week before that.
