The Boards, Monday [All Day]

The soundboard was out of the building when Troy arrived on Monday -- a little later than he'd planned, but still with plenty of time to work on the renovations -- and he was staring at the empty space where it had been. There were still plenty of wires running around, but Troy couldn't make head nor tail of them. "How am I supposed to plug in my laptop?" he asked, pouting pouting.

On the front of the building -- and a few more places around town, where Troy's posted them on his way to work -- there was a poster:

Jono gave the poster a bit of a look from across the room as he headed down the stairs from his apartment.

"So, you decided you could stand me for th'long haul, even if I leave you playing your music on that tiny little thing, hm?"

Yeah, the position of musical director certainly seemed to appeal to him.

"Give me five minutes and a flashlight, and I'll have that wired through th'speakers, mate. I left a few hooked up to th'power last night while I was working."

Music was a priority, here, okay?

"Well, considering I'm th'one that tangled them up in th'first place." Jono actually managed a bit of a smirk as he grabbed for a flashlight and wandered over to the dark corner of the room (he was right at home in the dark corners, shut up) to sort out the wires in question. "Mind bringing that over here, mate? Easier to manage if we're not running these wires clear across th'room."

A pause.

"Bring an extension cord."

He was working on the power! He was!

"Said tomorrow on th'slip, yes," Jono agreed, before making use of his new mouth by holding the end of the flashlight between his teeth while he worked. It meant that he was slurring his speech a little from that point on, but really, what did that hurt? "Shood 'dee a-gull 'koo ghet it inshall'd in no tine, 'ate."

Er. Should be able to get it installed in no time, mate.

Bloody hell, he missed his telepathy already.

Jono glanced briefly over his shoulder, and then shrugged, turning back toward the wiring for another minute more before removing the flashlight from his mouth.

He shouldn't have been so proud that he hadn't wound up drooling. And yet.

"Off th'top of my head? I might need to rent a guitar," he ventured. "In case anybody needs accompaniment. I used to have a Stratocaster, but for th'life of me, I don't know if I'll ever get it back, or if I do, that it'll be before th'weekend."

He reached for the extension cord, and then fiddled with a few more wires, and like magic? Excellent YouTube covers, playing on what was left of the theatre's sound system.

"I don't," Jono admitted, frowning thoughtfully. "But I could learn. A keyboard or a piano is a bit of a staple for a theatre, really."

He was ambitious!

... And also hell-bent on keeping occupied so that he didn't do something stupid like start thinking too much.

"We didn't rent any instruments out while I was working there, no. Can you handle getting both back here on your own?"

"What, did something die back there?"

It was possible. People, as a general rule, were pretty disgusting, after all.

Either way, Jono was getting up and making his way over, bleach in hand.

"I'll admit that hiring someone from the island to play would make more sense," he added, thoughtfully. "Not necessarily a student, mind. There are plenty of adults on the island, too, and I wouldn't want to fail to tap a group of people for their talent based solely on age."

Plus, he remembered how much begging he had to do in order to get a band together the last time he attempted that around here.

"Either way, I can't play guitar and keyboard at once, unless I grow an extra set of arms. And so far as I know, that isn't hugely likely."

So far as he knew. And if he could, then he really, really didn't want to know.
furnaceface: (Hmm.)

"Er... It has done stranger," Jono offered, blinking. "Future children, turning us into children, different people entirely, ponies... Hell, genes, where I'm from, are usually enough to give people everything from extra arms to the ability to turn themselves into living metal. I don't see why Fandom would let itself be one-upped like that."

... Though, in all fairness, it was entirely possible that 616 was even more insane than Fandom. Just in very different ways.

"That would work. Hell, we might find someone willing to stay on part-time to play piano at the auditions, even. Who knows what sort of talent will show up, after all?"

The possibilities were endless!

... Ish!

"Breathe shallowly."

Useful advice from someone who had spent most of the past decade without lungs!

"We're going to have to have some sort of rule about eating in th'theatre. Bottled water only in th'seating? Something like."

It was only a matter of time before Raven met Troy, since she was likely to be spending a great deal of time at the Boards. And that time would seem to be today.

She paused to read the poster before stepping inside. "Hello," she said when she saw Troy. "Are you Troy?"

"The auditions?" Raven repeated, confused for just a brief moment. Then she remembered the poster. "Oh! No, I am not. I do love music and singing but my home has no winter celebrations to share."

Azarath was a really boring place.

"Azarath was very...different from Earth," Raven explained. "There was no music there, or singing either, but I have come to love both here in Fandom. And I have enjoyed participating in my friends' celebrations of the holidays. If there is some other way I might be able to contribute, I would be interested in that."

She blushed a little, realizing she was nearly babbling. "I am Raven," she said. "Jono might have mentioned me to you."

"Jono is my boyfriend, so you will probably be seeing a great deal of me here," Raven said. "And I will certainly try to see if my friends would be interested in auditioning. If I cannot participate, I will certainly watch."
