The Gig, Sunday

Tamara and her puppy had spent most of yesterday exploring the woods, but today... today they knew they had a very important job to get to! They had to make sure the horses were fed and brushed and exercised and everything.

When they arrived at the stables, though, they found another little girl asleep in the hay bales. Tamara put her finger to her lips and made a shhhh noise as she greeted the horses. Maybe when the other girl woke up she'd want to play or help with the horses, but right now it would be rude to do anything but just let her sleep.

Fortunately, little Dani didn't sleep for that long. After yawning and stretching, she climbed out of her bed of hay and started squealing, "HORSIES!"

No, she hadn't gotten tired of that yet.

"Yes," Tamara nodded. "They're very nice horses. I am taking care of them today."

"I can help! I know where the carrots are," Dani volunteered.

It's probably a miracle that the horses weren't sick from all the carrots she fed them yesterday.

"Carrots are treats," Tamara said emphatically. Her Papa had been very clear on that matter. "Horses also need oats!"

"I don't like oats," said Dani. "My nanny tried to make me eat oatmeal once. Daddy had to fire her and get me a new nanny that let me eat Pop-Tarts. I don't think the horses would like oat, either."

"Horse bellies are different than human ones," Tamara argued.

"They are? So horsies actually like oats?" Dani said, pondering that. "I wonder what else they like that I won't eat. Would they like spinach?"

Tamara nodded. "Maybe? What's a spinach?"

"It's yucky leafy green stuff," said Dani, making a face. "I think it tastes horrible, but horses like to eat grass and that doesn't taste good either."

Tamara wrinkled her nose at the description. She wasn't much of a fan of leafy green stuff either. "Horses would probably like that," she agreed. "Y'got any so we can see?"

"No," said Dani, looking a bit forlorn. "All I could find was carrots and oats and hay. And that's more food than I found at home, so I just stayed here."
