Trooper Station, Tuesday

First day on the new job, and things were going fabulously.

If one's definition of "fabulously" included a petulant Trooper sulking at his desk as Jake went through the stacks of paperwork that he'd inherited along with the sheriff position.

"Oh, man up and quit sooking around," Jake finally snapped at Ralph. "I'm a great boss, just ask Tino." Not that he was technically Tino's boss, but he bossed him around, so that counted, right?

Audrey at least stopped in at the trooper station every day because she was a workaholic like that because she was a workaholic like that, so seeing a newish face here was a little bit of a surprise. "Aren't you the guy from Caritas?" she asked.

Not that she remembered his name, if he'd given it. She had to get better at that.

"You know, I'm still not entirely sure myself?" Jake admitted. "I came in to complain about the coffee, and next thing I know, that Anakin guy's offering me a job. His job."

"It was that or sit by and let them press bullshit charges against my father," Jake explained. "But now... now I can tell them to shove it, I've got more important things to do." Like order a new coffee machine for the station, good god.
