Valentines Dance, Town Hall, Saturday Evening - Post II

The streamers were looking a little droopy, the food tables were somewhat picked over, there was probably more glitter on the floor than the actual decorations, and the punch was most definitely spiked by now... but the night was young and the party was still going strong.

Annie was still here, and pointedly ignoring the punch, just in case. She was still drinking her water, and why hadn't they turned on the air conditioning in here, god.

Hanna was pretty sure the punch was spiked by now. That didn't stop her from drinking it. Maybe that's why she was feeling a bit warm tonight. Though she felt that way before the punch...hmmm.

"What's in the punch, exactly?" Elphaba asked, having wandered over to greet her friend. "I've been avoiding it, just in case it somehow isn't vegan."

"Booze now," Hanna replied. "But other than that, it has, like, fake preservatives and food coloring and stuff. Don't think any meat products were involved."

She had no idea what she was talking about, but it sounded smart in her less than sober mind.

"I think I might have some, then," Elphaba said. "Is it cold? I've been feeling so warm half the night, it's like they've... broken whatever tik-tokery keeps this place warm in the winter and it's working too hard."

"You, too? I thought I was imagining it," Hanna said, looking around for whatever heating system was around. "Someone should fix that."

She was not going to be that someone.

Britta tentatively sniffed at the punch, seeing if she was right in her assumption that someone else would spike it. She wanted to do it herself, but she didn't have any money for the booze.

Yes Jaye was still here. With punch, because that made things so much easier to snark on.

Like Butters was going to go to a dance and not get on the dance floor, especially when he was so moved (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h99k8yeNfng&feature=related)* toward a particular song.

Kenzi danced over to Butters, snickering at his moves.

"CANDY! DANCE WITH ME!"

When it came to dancing that wasn't tap, Butters was pretty determined. He easily got into it and it was as if the music and the moves were the only thing in the world. So it wasn't a surprise that he was right in the middle of a pretty emphatic "What What" when Kenzi broke in and he stopped dead flat with a faltering "In the bu--"

"Er," said Butters, looking around nervously now. "No, thank you."

By now, Kenzi was very good at being selectively deaf to his answers to these requests. So she hip-checked him and kept moving, arms over her head. "You have to keep moving!"

"H-Hey!" Butters protested and found himself even more flustered than usual when Kenzi's hip checked his, but he did find himself swinging again to the music, because she was right. He did have to keep moving. "Do not. Maybe I don't wanna dance with you, Kenzi."

She would never admit it, but Britta sometimes could not refused (badly) dancing at a party, especially when there were...other influences. It didn't matter that it was random teeny-bopper stuff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e4e-eXWbbs) from her era.

It also didn't matter that she had no idea what the lyrics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k1zr6e12kM) were, she was going to try to sing, too.

"Hit me with your genie's bottle..."

Kenzi was still dancing. She might fall over at some point, with hormones and spiked punch, but right now: having fun.

The overabundance of slow songs were working out for Chuck. Though he hadn't said it, he was more worried about him stepping on Dany's toes, than the other way around.

Slow songs were good.

"I--" Proximity, there was a lot of that involved in this kind of dancing wasn't there? Part of him might be a little preoccupied about that. "I don't really know steps to dances," he admitted, as he led her out to the dance floor.

"Fortunately enough," said Dany as she eyed the other dancers, "neither do I. We're evenly matched, it seems. And," she added, her heart speeding up a little with nerves because yes, proximity was going to be involved, "it doesn't look like much is required of this sort of dancing, anyway. Just, um -- here."

And with that, she shoved aside her nervousness, and stepped forward to gently loop an arm around his neck. "Something like this?"

"Something like that." He didn't really need to talk loud now, and his chest was feeling a little tight, such that he didn't really want to.

Breathe, Chuck. Remember to breathe.

It was funny, really, how much came down to autopilot, because when he slid his hand around to her back, it was almost unconscious. His mind was still racing on a million other things.

"See, you're more of a natural at this than you think." Still with the unnecessary talking.

Dany let out a laugh that was more of a smiling breath than anything else. She scarcely wanted to move, lest her heart actually beat straight out of her chest. "There are few things simpler than this, I think," she offered quietly. "If I can keep balance on a horse while asleep, standing in someone's arms while very awake should be easy."

She still felt more unbalanced than usual, though, somehow. Perhaps it was the sudden lightness of her head.
