Semi-Secluded Spot on the Beach, Monday Afternoon
Picking up on the occasional stray dirty thought was nothing new for Toby. It happened, he could deal with it. But the constant, consistent, way more prevalent than usual thoughts from virtually everyone on the island? At the same time? Was giving him one hell of a headache.
So he'd left the dorms in search of a relatively secluded spot and was trying his best to recreate the relaxation techniques Ray had taught him, fingers curling into fists, and then back out again, over and over.
It wasn't working so well, no.
[ooc: expecting one, but tis an open beach.]

When she spotted Toby, she thought about keeping her distance at first, not wishing to disturb him. Then she remembered how he'd been overwhelmed by the thoughts around him when they'd been transformed into children and realized he must be as disturbed as she was.
"Hello, Toby," she said, carefully shielding herself so she wouldn't add to his distress with her own thoughts.

"I have been giving myself a headache shielding myself so strongly."

She gestured back in the direction of the school. "It is on the sixth floor of the dorms, and was built with the understanding that students such as you and me, who are sensitive to the minds of others, might need a place where they can go and not have to deal with the thoughts or emotions of those around them. I do not know how it works, only that it does work. If you enter the room, you will find that it is as if you are alone on a deserted island in the middle of an ocean. There will be no thoughts but your own."

"It is perfectly safe, I assure you."

Another burst of black smoke and they were standing in the hallway of the sixth floor in front of the door to the Safe Room.

She gestured toward the door to the Safe Room. "And this is the Safe Room. Shall we go inside?"

"That is so much better," she said, easing her shields down.

"It's so quiet..." he said, more than a little awed by the idea.

"It lingers longer than some of the other strangeness Fandom has to offer," she said. "But the effect should fade within a week. Fortunately."
