The Boards, Saturday, All Day

Jonothon was a bit tired when he made his way down the stairs for his office shift at the Boards. He'd been out late, after all, and arguing always left him a little out of sorts. But there was a coffee maker tucked under one arm, and a bag of grounds in his other hand, and together, the two of them were going to get him through the day.

Jono had never been a Boy Scout, but he had to admit that there was a certain sort of charm in their 'be prepared' motto.

[The Boards office is open!]

It had been some time since Chamber's - or Decibel's, whichever name he was using at the time - return to Fandom, and Cable felt it was time to at least check in and see how he was getting along.

So he arrived at the Boards into the afternoon. "Jonothon," he greeted, partly to deal with the whole codename situation, partly because well, first name basis wouldn't be a bad thing, right?

... On first name basis with a towering, broad, scarred mutant with a reputation. Yes, many people would kill for that chance.

"Just a social call," Cable offered. Was that a faint smile on his face? It probably was. "Asking you how you've settled in doesn't hold much weight when you haven't had time to settle..."

"Coffee would be fine," Cable agreed. "Mind if I pull up a chair...?"

Sitting: sometimes it happened.

"Two sugars," said Cable, because a real man wasn't scared of admitting he liked some sweetness in his coffee, and took the offered seat.

He sat back and crossed his legs. "It's good to see the theater up and running again," he said.

"We went without a theater for some time until Geoffrey came and set this up," Cable noted. He took his coffee and took a long sip. "But I agree with the general idea - we should be promoting the arts, especially on this island. I think there are kids who can use this chance to express themselves."

"Did you ever feel tempted?" he wondered. "There are some things we only learn to appreciate as we get older."

"Geoffrey was..."

Struggling for a decent word to put it...

"...a little quirky," Cable settled on. "I didn't know, but I'm not quite surprised." He took another sip of his coffee. "So have you broken your guitar out for a performance yet, down here?"

Possibly all the G-names were starting to jumble in Cable's mind, too. It was... slightly harder to forget the man with the razorblades in his mouth, though.

Cable nodded, and set his cup down for a moment. "Why did you start playing?" he asked, changing tacks a little.

Cable's mouth formed another one of those faint smiles. "And why does an adult keep it up?" he asked.

He filed away the information, which rang very true - it also told him everything he needed to know about Jono's decision not to take central stage.

"I didn't follow your exploits between leaving school and... well, shortly before we met again, all that closely," Cable admitted. "But I know that it was rough. Though, in the light of all that, it seems all the more fitting that you ended up here."

Here, as in the theater.

Cable gave that a shrug of his own. "I'm interested in listening if you're interested in talking about it," he offered.

"You were benched?"

Cable sounded somewhat sympathetic.

"I always felt the whole point of young recruits was making sure they got experience under their belt..."

Because X-Force had always been such a beacon of functional.

"At Xavier's, that's not always an easy task," Cable noted. "One of the reasons I went part-time after Providence was formed..."
