Pizza Planet [Monday afternoon]

It had taken way longer than Rory would have preferred to get out the door this morning. Between what had become Juliet's now-requisite clinging to her leg before she left and her own actual exhaustion, it was afternoon before she made it into town. And while she'd planned to meet Jaina for lunch anyway, it took way more effort to actually get into Pizza Planet and sit down than she would have liked. Plus it was getting to where sitting in booths was uncomfortable, too, though she still fit juuuuust barely.

While she waited, she sent Anakin a text promising to try and get one of those little aliens from the machine for Juliet and Vladdie. They could totally share, okay?

[waiting for one, but totally open omg! I go AFKish around 4:30 EST, though, so SP after that]

Jaina was actually glad to be getting out for a while today. After yesterday there were way too many serious thoughts going on that she'd much rather avoid. So basically, yay lunch!

"Hey," she greeted Rory as she found the booth. "Did I keep you waiting long?"

"If you had, I would have already eaten like, half a pizza," Rory promised with a grin as she squeezed back out to give Jaina a hug. "How are you?"

"Oh, you don't have to get up," she said, but if Rory was already up, there'd be hugging. "I'm okay. How are you doing? Besides being pregnant?"

"That kind of takes over your everything, but I'm good, aside from it," Rory assured her as she sat back down. "Busy. Work's getting insane, but I'll miss a lot of the big craziness when the baby decides to show up. It's super-convenient."

"And when's that again?" she asked, sitting. She'd never asked for specifics, knowing the odds were good that she'd kind of be overwhelmed with other stuff by then.

"End of May," Rory replied easily. "Juliet thinks she's getting a big sister. I'm not sure she understands how this works, exactly."

Rory shook her head. "Not according to the doctor. Congrats, you're getting an uncle." She paused, frowning, and added, "That never stops being weird to say."

Jaina smiled, but said, "I'm not sure if I even can. Me being in another non-Fandom galaxy where I already am? A little strange. That's why I don't get more visitors back home."

"Fair," Rory agreed. "Is it even like, okay for visitors right now, anyway? How's the whole political climate back home? Last I heard things weren't great, at least for you."

"It's okay right now. Eric's been able to visit a couple times with no problem," she said, not sure if Anakin had told Rory about that whole thing or not. "I have no idea how long things will stay this calm, but it's nice to be able to breathe a bit."

Rory nodded along, looking thoughtful. "Eric's the tall drink of water you've been...seeing?" That was about how much she knew, yes. Enough that she could guess, but not enough that she was sure that 'seeing' was the right word.

Jaina paused briefly. "I don't know that I'd call him good, but I wouldn't call him bad, either," she decided. "But don't worry. I know how to handle myself here."

Maybe not entirely reassuring, but it was honest.

"Being married to your grandfather has its occasional perks," Rory pointed out. "But speeders are so sleek and actually meant to fly, anyway. Though I'd probably freak people out if I just took it for a ride around DC, anyway."

"I don't really," Rory noted thoughtfully. "Anakin does. The few times I've used it have been near enough to Fandom that I was fine with it, or like, in the middle of the night. I suspect there's a lot of this," she made the little Jedi mind-whammy hand-gesture, "going on when he takes it out, personally."

Jaina allowed herself maybe half a second to be reminded of possibly having been whammied recently herself, and then promptly repressed it. "It has to help," she said. "Unless you tell everyone it's a prototype you're testing."

"Genius," Rory decided, raising her brows. "I'll have to use that when I take it out again. Which...probably won't be for awhile, actually," she added, glancing down at her stomach. "But hey, I'll make sure Juliet knows the word 'prototype' for when you take her out in the X-Wing, right?"

"Probably not mine," she said. "There'd be a lot of time in the simulator first. But when she's older, taking her out in something that needs a copilot wouldn't be out of the question."

Yeah, Rory was just taking that part for granted. "For what it's worth, Mommy's vote of 'when she's older' means double digits, at least," Rory offered. "I know the Skywalker-Solos are early pilots, but come on."

"It came in handy," Jaina shrugged. "Jacen and I had to fly the Falcon when we were nine and had no other choice." Luckily that was probably not something they'd have to worry about here, at least.

"No, it doesn't hurt," she conceded. "I think a lot of it is practice, too; once I was in the military I realized most of the better pilots and especially the vets could do what I did with zero Force sensitivity. That took some getting used to."

Which happened when you grew up thinking you were special and awesome and the only one who could do things.
