Turtle & Canary; Tuesday [ 04/10 ].
Papers were spread around the counter at Turtle & Canary today, as both Samus and Apu seemed to be searching carefully through all the fine print and in between the line. She'd run a scanner through the documents for certain words several times, and only recently allowed herself to relax a little with confidence.
"And you're not finding anything, either?" she asked Apu, again, to confirm that his search had been the same as hers.
He dismally shook his head. "I believe you are correct, Mr. Samus," he said, still never dropping the idea of calling Samus by a masculine title despite knowing by now that she was female...at least Samus hoped he figured it out by now. "There is nothing in these contracts that suggest that you cannot leave your employment here at the store, only that you had accept it."
"Good," she said, nodding. "No offense. I just think if I'm stuck on this planet for a while, I might as well be employed at something I know."
With a rueful glance toward the aisles that had been slowly deteriorating into disarray and weird stock from Samus's unfamiliarity with the needs of 'primitive earth,' Apu could not find argument against that point. "Yes, it should be good. I am sure I can manage it until the next owner comes in. I just pray to all the gods that the next will not be anything like the last before you, Mr. Samus."
Behind her helmet, Samus wondered if Apu could see her wry grin. "Who knows?" she said, carefully tucking the papers back into order. "Maybe I'll see if that anarchist girl wants a promotion."
If looks could kill, Samus would need to replace her Power Suit again.
