Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday Afternoon

To add another point in 'I hate the school board' column, Karla had been taken aside told that 'Dite's shop was probably not what this mysterious benefactor wanted to see on the island and that she would need to figure out something else for 'Dite's to pretend to be. Rather than go through that much effort--they only needed to pretend for a day, right?--Karla just locked the doors, pulled the blinds, and put up a ~~totally convincing~~ sign on the door:

Dite's Decadent Delights is closed for today! But we look forward to bringing you more delicious treats tomorrow!

Newbies usually thought 'Dite's was a candy shop anyway. She'd bank on that and hope for the best.

...Guess who would be going into a panic on Tuesday when the board was still here and she needed new stock.

Kenzi could stand there all day doing this. In Stupid, STUPID clothes. WTF, Fandom.

Karla had stuck around for a few more minutes, doing a quick inventory so she'd be ready to open tomorrow. After a few minutes of the constant knocking, however, she was stalking forward to open the door and hiss, "What?!"

Kenzi ducked in and flung out her arms. "Treats!?"

Yeah, someone was a little disbelieving.

"We're not family friendly enough," Karla sneered. "'Dite's is not the kind of quality establishment that the benefactor would like to see on the island. Because somehow he became Warlord Prince of bloody Fandom when we weren't looking and now we must prostrate ourselves before him in order to keep his beneficence going."

"He wants us to have babies out of wedlock and bad sex, is that it?!" Kenzi demanded. "I'm not prostrating. I've seen what these people wear. Not. Happening."

"I think he wants a riot on his hands," Karla declared. "Itchy, uncomfortable, and downright hideous uniforms on top of finals, and now nothing to help students take the edge off. Maybe that's what he's trying for. So he can stop funding us."

Epic. Pouting. "No take-backs! That's, that's just... nnnngh." Kenzi's eyes narrowed. "Do we know where this guy lives? No reason."

"He's wandering around the town right now," Karla said with a grimace. "I'm hoping they don't come around here and try for candy anyway. Because I might just lose my temper and offer them a cock-pop and not even care."

"An aneurysm could happen!" Kenzi said, totally hopeful. "I was thinking more of taking all his stuff and keeping it, but that works too... they'll be gone before my Friday shift, right?"

Right? Right?

"They're supposed to be gone by tonight," Karla said. "Thank the Darkness. Because otherwise people really might riot. And I'm getting more and more tempted to offer anyone who does a free bottle of lube. Or...or whatever."

They were going to be SO SAD tomorrow.

Kenzi relaxed, fiddling at the over-large collar on her ridiculous uniform. "Okay then. I don't have to come up with a better cover story than candy. Not that I know what I'd come up with." And that meant she could work at Caritas on Thursday too. Whew.

..so, so, so so sad. "Although why they'd think they could dictate anything to shop-owners... I mean, I thought this was America."

"Money talks," Karla said dryly. "And the shops are pretty dependent on the school for business. If the school closed, how many of these shops would stay open?"

The female yesterday had been a bitch, but she'd made a few points.

"It was presented not as an order but a strongly worded suggestion," she added, rolling her eyes.

Kenzi made a gagging noise. "How the heck did this person get on the board? Did he inherit his spot?" Come to think of it... "You know, I've never been sure how that works anyway. Reps from different worlds? Elected, appointed, trial by combat?"

Karla shrugged. "I have no idea. Until now, the only thing I ever saw a school board member do was turn the graduation ceremony into a trial by...everything. They got turned into little kids and animals or something."

"Hunh." Kenzi blinked. "That could be weirdly fun. If you expected it." Not so much, if not. "Man. Stuff you never thought you'd have to read the fine print for."
