To add another point in 'I hate the school board' column, Karla had been taken aside told that 'Dite's shop was probably not what this mysterious benefactor wanted to see on the island and that she would need to figure out something else for 'Dite's to pretend to be. Rather than go through that much effort--they only needed to pretend for a day, right?--Karla just locked the doors, pulled the blinds, and put up a totally convincing sign on the door:

Dite's Decadent Delights is closed for today! But we look forward to bringing you more delicious treats tomorrow!

Newbies usually thought 'Dite's was a candy shop anyway. She'd bank on that and hope for the best.

...Guess who would be going into a panic on Tuesday when the board was still here and she needed new stock.

Trick wasn't entirely sure if this mysterious 'benefactor' understood what Portalocity was, but rather than being sorry, he put out a few pamphlets about vacation packages and things. If nothing else, he figured he'd just tell people it was called 'Portalocity' because it was 'your portal to the best vacation ever!'

And then made a mental note to send that to the corporate office. It was the kind of schmaltz that big corporations ate up. Unless they censured him for being too creative instead. With Portalocity Corporate, one was as likely as the other.

Behind the counter where the board members couldn't see, he put a post-it note on his computer screen, reminding him to give a 25% discount on anyone leaving because they didn't 'fit in.' He might not have much to do with the school itself, but Trick was Fae. He understood the importance of having a place where they could hide from human eyes--or, in this case, 'normal eyes'--and how bad it felt when that place was taken away.

Now more than ever, he missed the Dal.

Raven had returned to the dorms to find the awful uniform waiting for her, but considering Jono had to leave Fandom because of this infuriating visit, plaid was the least of her concerns. So she sighed and put it on, though she felt quite uncomfortable and disliked the length of the skirt. At least putting her cloak on over it made her look almost normal.

Until she went to the Perk for some tea, at least. She'd picked a caffeinated blend and after her first sip felt a strange sensation in her back. Alarmed, she'd pulled off her cloak and looked over her shoulder to find...black feathery wings?

Please excuse Raven while she panicked, first because of how and then because of oh-Azar-Karla-and-Warren-can-never-see-these.

[Open, because screw the flowers today.]

There was a good portion of the population of the island who wouldn't be pleased with the current changes, and Ender couldn't blame them. Many of them had come here looking for a respite, a place to be themselves - or had let Fandom become that for them. He could only hope the school board knew what it was doing, and this farce would soon be over.

As for Ender, though, he'd spent his formative years in the military. A new uniform was nothing, ugly as it may have been. If anything, it was downright familiar to have a specific thing to put on every morning again, and at least it fit.

Though he had had to be reminded about the socks.

So he came in to work with little more to think about than his usual chores, and Ben's frame of mind after they'd found out about Tahiri. He opened up the store, brought up a few projects from the back to work programming on, and generally settled in for a slow day.

Hank had been hard at work, and so the window of T&C was filled with a large sign reading

WELCOME, BENEFACTORS AND SCHOOL BOARD

FREE!!! SQUISHY TO EVERY PATRON
All school and office supplies 30% off!!!

He'd helped Apu tidy the store, and worked to hide as much of the strange merchandise and possible. As for the dairy aisle... well, he'd done what he could. Standing in front of the cheese was a large figure dressed in baggy sweatpants, a hoodie, gloves, and dark sunglasses, with every inch of exposed fur skin wrapped in bandages.

Turtle and Canary was open for business and ready for visitors!

Today's Squishy flavors: Red, White Grape, Blue Raspberry

As if the presence of the School Board wasn't enough of an annoyance, Tino was clearly taking his recent "promotion" a bit too seriously, what with the way he was lording his new (temporary) manager status over Jake.

Jake had decided to ignore him in favour of testing out a shipment of espresso-flavoured vodka that had arrived earlier that day.

The set of black wings that had sprouted shortly after he'd downed a shot had thrown him for a loop briefly, but by the time they wore off he'd become enamoured of them enough to deliberately take a second shot of vodka.

So, the uniforms were horrific, and there was a certain amount of stress in the air over trying to act like Fandom was normal and mundane. It seemed like a pretty good time to walk into town to get something nice to eat and see how the place was dealing with not being weird. It was a rare occasion.

Although...

"Considering I think I've alreday seen wings on people that don't generally have them," Natalie noted to Sam as they were walking along, "I'd say this pretending game isn't going so well."

[ooc: Nat is here for the modded boy and another guy, but the post is open should you need the streets!]

After visiting the school and the day's classes, it was time for the Howells to take their tour around town. Maps of the island were offered to any of the school board members who wanted them, and if they hadn't been altered in any way to hide anything, well, it certainly hadn't been deliberate, really. If everyone could make it through the tour without being called fascists, they might just make it through this all right.

[This post is for the tour of the town, for Caroline, the Howells, any school board members who want to supervise come along, and any business owners or folks who want to be out in the town during the tour!]

Tiny was wearing a shirt with sleeves, Eric was not threatening to eat the DJ, the DJ was playing nothing but Pat Boone...just another wholesome night of not-too-exciting fun here at Salutations.

Eric had never been so bored in his life.
