The Boards, Saturday, All Day
It had occurred to Jonothon after a few hours of sitting around today, staring at paperwork and just altogether not wanting to touch any of it with a ten-foot pole, that he was starting to rot, here. As it turned out, Troy had taken off again, most likely to New York though Jonothon hadn't really bothered to ask, which meant that the Boards as a whole had been eerily quiet, save for Joni's mewling and the occasional chirping of the frogs in the lobby and the crickets that Jono kept on hand in order to keep them fed.
Clearly he had to do something, and for the first time in a while the something that he had in mind was something that he figured he could handle.
AUDITIONS!
Fandom Island Summer Showcase!
Have a song, an amusing anecdote?
Will you be around to greet the new arrivals at the end of June?
Remember how much you wished somebody had made an informational presentation for you when you were new?
Come audition for our showcase and help traumatize a new wave of residents to the island!
Auditions will be held Wednesday, June 13 and Saturday, June 16
Rehearsals will be Wednesdays and Saturdays
Performance on Sunday, July 1st
All are welcome!
Jono eyed the poster for a minute, satisfied that he was finally doing something productive with his time on the island, and then dusted his hands off and went back inside to stare at the paperwork again. No matter how much he willed it to, it simply refused to do itself.
[OOC: Open Boards! Stop in to visit, ask what the showcase is all about, make use of the recording studio, or do the funky chicken on the stage for no good reason. It's allll good. I was going to note that I'll be out for a while this morning, but who am I kidding? In this timezone, I'll be home before most of you are out of bed.]
[OOC2: And yes, I realize this leaves time for grand-total of four rehearsals. How much time could memorizing a song or a poem or a story possibly take?
[OOC3: Idek.]

No, she hadn't read any of the details of the sign. It said "showcase." She was going to come back and try out.
Today. Because that was when she read the sign. Jono was here, so why not?
It was early evening when she returned. And she was just assuming he was here. She'd find out soon enough.
"Okay, I'll be in your showcase thing," she announced, sweeping into the Boards as if she owned the place. Or was considering putting money down to buy it. Rent? Rent-to-own? "Do I have to play something? You know I can play. I was in the last one."
Efficiency at its finest, Rinoa.
no subject
"I do know you can play," he allowed, crossing his arms over his chest and smiling. "I am curious if you've been keeping it up since the last show you were involved in, though. And if you have anything in mind for this showcase in particular?"
Sure, he'd let her do an early audition. Because it was nice to see someone so gung-ho about his first solo stint as director.
no subject
"Some," she said. "Not as much as I'd like. I've been busy. This will give me incentive to practice more. As for what song, I have a few ideas, but I'm open to requests."
What she lacked in honesty, she made up for in confidence.
"What's the general theme we're going for?"
Might as well admit she didn't know that much. It wasn't like she was acting like she cared about not knowing, so that all worked out. If you were insane.
Luckily, she was.

"We're doing a showcase on Fandom itself," he replied, giving his shoulders a shrug. "If you can't think of a song that's topical, you could always just play the first song Fandom ever made you sing on one of those musical days, or make something up. Ode To The Teal Dear, or somesuch..."
He didn't know either, Rinoa. He mostly just pulled the showcase theme idea out of his arse this morning.

"Oh!" Her eyes lit up suddenly. "When I first got here? There were little flowers in my room. They asked about my love life and sang romantic songs and they were adorable. Just for a day. But I could play a medley of what songs they sang. It was so cute."
no subject
He nodded toward the piano, now a permanent fixture here in the Boards and it was all Rinoa's fault.
"Wow me, Sunshine."
no subject
"Here," she said. "I have one of them. I'd have to find the others and staple them together, but that wouldn't be hard. Let's see."
And with that, she started in on Eternal Flame -- the flowers had only managed a few lines before she had cut them off, but they hadn't sang the whole song for any of the songs. It was going to be a medley, anyway.
Halfway through the song she stopped. "Do you feel that?"
no subject
"Or...?"
no subject
She tried to force herself to cough, to see if that would take the tickle out of her throat, but it didn't help. Instead of a cough, all that came out was a high-pitched tweet.
no subject
That was about all that Jono could really say about that.
"Um?"
See?
"Would you like... a glass of water or something?"
Look, Jean Grey had turned into a bird on him once, years and years back. That had been awkward a few days later when she'd turned back in his bedroom. HE HAD NOT AUTHORIZED THIS ANIMAL TRANSFORMATION, RINOA, DON'T YOU DARE.
no subject
"Yes," she answered. "I think I --" She screwed her face up in concentration, but all that came out was another tweet.
Oh, hey, speaking of birds! Wasn't that an adorable one sitting on his piano?
It really was. So tiny! So unthreatening! So completely going to be a pain in Jono's ass!
no subject
Because it was clearly all her fault. All hers. Entirely. Every last bit.
"You'll be happy to know that you've got the part, provided you turn back before July," he intoned, sighing as he made his way over to offer her a hand off the piano. "You'll be less pleased to know that I'm rescinding that statement if you take a shite on the piano. C'mere."
no subject
How should she know? She was a finch. She was not the brains of this operation, Jono.
no subject
"I suppose I ought to call Squall and get him to collect you," he decided, pulling out his phone with his free hand and dialling with his thumb.
The message that he left... left something to be desired, but at least it was to the point?
no subject
"What do you mean, a 'finch'?"
Apparently, hellos were for other people.
no subject
Because Jono was responsible! See?
no subject
He lifted a hand to pet the bird, and Finchnoa instead hopped onto his finger, chirping merrily.
"What happened? How many other people have transformed?"
no subject
Never mind that auditions for the showcase technically weren't actually until Wednesday. That didn't matter all that much, in the grand scheme of things.
"This is probably just one of those 'whims of Fandom' random winners of the animal transformation lottery moments, for what it's worth."
no subject
He coughed a little, and looked around worriedly. "...Are you sure it's just a random transformation? It could be something in the air."
no subject
Because Squall totally had control over this sort of thing! Sure!
no subject
He lifted a hand to cover his mouth for another cough, but the sound that came out was more of a... meow.
He winced and shrugged apologetically at Jono, as Rinoa fluttered off his hand and circled the room. When she came back to land again, Squall was no longer there. Instead, there was a very grumpy-looking wildcat.
no subject
Because he already had Joni, and the frog tank, and now Rinoa-the-Finch and Squall-the-wildcat. He wasn't looking to start a menagerie in here, thank you very much.
"If you eat your girlfriend, you're getting the water bottle, mate."
no subject
This sucked.
