Much like someone else who was at work in Fandom today, April had gotten her hands on that new "erotic bestseller" everyone was talking about.

However, April was not using it for its intended purpose. Or even reading it with her pants on. No, instead she was tearing out pages one by one and tossing them like basketballs into a series of differently-sized glasses on the bar.

This was beer pong at its best, people.

Samus came into the bar wearing her Zero Suit tonight, which meant that the woman planned on getting some serious drinking on.

Needless to say, she eyed the sign, and then arched her eyebrow at the bartender. "I hope you've got plenty of booze to pass out, then."

"It's a bar," April pointed out. "So yeah."

April was not a very polite person.

So Samus reached over, grabbed a wad of paper, used maybe just a bit of her inhuman strength to crush it down to something a bit more aerodynamic, and flicked it smoothly and effectively into one of the cups.

One that someone else was drinking.

"Better be something strong."

Neither was Samus.

April raised her eyebrows, mildly impressed. "Tino," she said with a couple of snaps of her fingers. "A drink for the nice lady."

Apparently April wasn't a very dedicated bartender, either.

"Do the rest of this chapter and you can have an umbrella, too," she offered to Samus. Because this book could not get destroyed fast enough, okay.

"Make it a shot of tequila for each chapter," Samus countered, "and you've got yourself a deal."

She eyed the book thoughtfully.

"Might as well just hand me the bottle now and save yourself some time."

April snapped her finger. "Tino," she commanded. "Bottle."

Grumbling, Tino handed over the bottle.

April set it down on the table and leaned in Samus' direction. Without lowering her voice, she explained, "He likes the book."

"And I take it," Samus speculated as another page became a projectile that landed perfectly in another drinking vessel, "that you're not?"

Thinking she might as well help the process along, April tossed over a balled-up page of her own, smirking almost imperceptibly when it made the landing.

Very dryly, she asked, "How'd you guess?"

"Call it a hunch," said Samus. "Everyone's a critic."

"Everyone with a brain, anyway," April commented.

She eyed Tino. "Yes offense."

There might have been a smirk in the corner of Samus's mouth, but she wasn't going to let it get to far. She did glance over her shoulder at the zombies, hitching a thumb their way. "Have they read it?"

"Not sure if they can read," April said thoughtfully. She paused, and nodded in Tino's direction. "I remain surprised that he can read."

Yes, April. You disliked Tino. She got it.

Samus eyed the girl coolly for a moment, wondering if she should warn her that talk like that was more likely to come around and bite her in the ass eventually, but she figured she could probably use the experience to learn better.

"Doesn't matter much to me," she shrugged, "so long as he can still pour a drink."

"Most of the time," April said.

She paused to toss another two paper balls into one of the last waiting cups, then shrugged.

"So I'm guessing you aren't a fan."

"Never even heard of it," Samus said, with the feeling that this made her very blessed. "I'm not much of a reader, anyway."

"Smart," April said. "Most books suck."

"Have you read most books?" asked Samus, taking a swig of a drink and then firing the next page missile, because she knew what priorities were.

If she was terrible, she might have made a comment about judging and covers but, thankfully, she was not terrible.

"Some," April said.

Beat.

"I've read Dusk."

Which meant...blissfully nothing to Samus.

"Should I be impressed?"

April snorted. "No."
