Ben had bolted early from the wee portable saunas the tents had become in this weather to bask in the air conditioning of his job. He wasn't draped over the vent (...any more...): instead he was tinkering with his datapad, looking for things to do on Naboo when he and Ender headed there in a few days.

Mmm, vacation.

The shop was open!

"Oh, thank god," Ender said as he stepped into the store, and briefly shut his eyes just to enjoy the cooler air.

"Hot enough for you?" Ben asked because he was totally the obnoxious person who asked that sort of thing.

"Mynock," Ender said. "Go make yourself useful and get me a towel."

Ben wandered into the back for a second and returned with a towel. "There needs to be a midnight swim tonight or something," he declared. "It's too kriffing hot."

"That actually wouldn't be such a terrible idea," Ender said, reaching for the towel. "It's downright unbearable."

And so not the kind of temperatures he was used to.

"It's a date, then," Ben declared, then smiled. "Swimtrunks optional."

Ender laughed softly. "I'll bring them, just in case," he said. "It'd be awkward walking back without them."

"True," Ben said, "and if we fell asleep on the beach for the night, the sunburn could be unbelievably painful."

Ben had the kind of luck that would extend to a sunburnt ass.

"And awkward," said Ender, who was thinking the same thing. "So let's be careful about it."

Ben leaned in for a quick kiss. "Also hi."

"Hi," Ender said, heaving up a plastic bag. "Considering the weather, I thought Thai was in order."

"That sounds astral," Ben said, pawing through the contents. "Any iced tea?"

"Yes, but don't drink it all at once," Ender said. "I'm not going back out there to get more."

The first summer semester was winding to a close, and after some lengthy discussion, Firekeeper and Blind Seer had decided to make another attempt to cross back into their own world.

Most of their friends had by now left the island, but there was still at least one who Firekeeper wanted to check in on before they made said attempt, just in case communication from the other side was not possible after all.

"Ben, hello!" she called out cheerfully, looking around the shop with the curiosity of... well. Someone who'd never been there before.

"Firekeeper and Blind Seer!" Ben grinned. "Need to borrow the air conditioning? It's hot as Mustafar out there."

"I do not think it would fit in our tent," Firekeeper said seriously.

"Probably not," Ben agreed. "I tried to rig up a generator but it seemed really excessive for another couple days outside, right?"

Firekeeper nodded. "When the tent get too hot, we just go into Preserve to sleep anyway," she admitted. The shade and the lack of walls made it... somewhat cooler.

Not that either wolf really needed the excuse of the heat to sleep outside, anyway.

"Don't you do that a lot anyway?" Ben asked.

"Is true," Firekeeper confirmed, flashing a grin.

Ben grinned back. "Can't blame you. The people can get to be a lot."

"And at home, wolves do not use tents," she said frankly. "Dens is only for when mothers have pups."

"So shelter kind of implies vulnerability," Ben extrapolated. He smiled at Blind Seer. "Humans missed out by not having really great fur."

Firekeeper nodded. "When I were littler, the others made fun of me some because I had to tie deer hides to myself to keep warm in winter. In summer," she snickered. "In summer I hear nothing but complain, complain, complain."

"You could always offer to clip their hair back?" Ben said, guessing just how enthusiastically Blind Seer would react to that idea.
