MCA Lobby, Saturday morning

After a couple missions that inevitably went insane the past few weeks, Zayne was on leave from Reciprocity so he could take care of everything he needed to do in Fandom. Once he landed his shuttle on the rooftop landing pad (HE HAD A SHUTTLE NOW, what was happening?), he sent a quick message to parties who might be interested that he was back and made his way down to the lobby to check the state of everything.

He was a little concerned when he checked the list of residents to see if anyone had moved in or out and found it folded into a paper hat. Also, it hadn't been updated. That seemed like the lesser concern. This was going to take some investigation.

[OOC: Zayne's officially back in town! Messages went out to anyone who thinks they might have received one. Open, but I'll be slowish most of the day.]

"I've been on several Mandalorian-controlled worlds, but never Mandalore itself," Zayne noted. "With my luck, I'll end up there by accident sooner or later."

"Too bad I can't make you say hi for me if and when you do," she teased. "Though you could, and let it really confuse them."

"Maybe it'll help if I tell them it'll make sense in a few millennia?" Zayne offered.

"Try it, see what happens," she decided. "I take no responsibility it what happens is bad."

"I will, I promise. After all, the end result of me being there would probably be them trying to murder me and me getting off the planet due to highly unlikely coincidence," Zayne joked. "So I'd have nothing to lose."

"Considering I thought I was going to go there and get shot a soon as I set foot on the planet, I find that really funny," she admitted.

"Sorry if it's a weird question, but why didn't you get shot?" Zayne asked.

"I was able to explain in time?" she said with a wry smile. "It's kind of a long story, but one of the Mandos had sent my dad armor as sort of backhanded gift, which I decided to take as an invitation. Luckily that reasoning flew."

"Whereas I had to get my armor the hard way," Zayne chuckled. "Which is why I kept it. So if you ever see a guy in town in old Mandalorian armor, don't shoot first, please."

She held up her hands. "I'm past that sort of reaction, I promise."

"Good. I'm guessing the armor looks different in your time anyway," Zayne said. "I mean, they just changed it from what it looked like twenty years ago. I figure it's changed more over the years."

Sure, Zayne. Because that's how that galaxy worked.

"Uh, probably not," Jaina said. "They maybe admitted to using the same technology from four thousand years ago. I guess if it's not broke..."

"Oh. Well, I guess the Republic doesn't break everything they have, then," Zayne said. "That's a little reassuring."

It shouldn't have been, of course, but Malachor V was still three years away....

"Is it more reassuring that a lot of the stuff is the same?" She knew for a fact the swoop bikes were. Because who needed technological upgrades when you already had flying vehicles?

"For me, yes," Zayne said. "Knowing that pieces of both Republic and Mandalorian cultures last so long suggest that maybe we'll get out of the war without anything too horrible happening to either side."

Again. Unaware of how the war would end. It would be useful information. But he didn't have it.

Yeeeah. "You're more hopeful than a lot of people mid-war," she said.

"It's why I was such a terrible soldier, and why I was asked to be an official conscience for a ship," Zayne said. "There has to be a better, less destructive way of doing things, even now. If I keep going the way I am, maybe I'll even find it."

Revan was way more influential than Zayne. Revan was cool with destroying a fleet by sacrificing a large portion of his fleet and artificially increasing a planet's gravity to make everyone crash. Zayne's way was not going to overtake that.

Oh, he was going to be in for some harsh disappointments, because that certainly hadn't changed between then and now. And yet she never did have the heart to tell him otherwise. "You realize war is destructive just by nature of being war," Jaina pointed out.

"And soldiers kill because of the nature of war," Zayne said. "But the soldiers on Reciprocity have done great things the past few weeks without having to kill anyone."

"I know that regimes and philosophies rise and fall and this won't last forever, but I'm convinced that we can make a difference in how the Republic fights, at least for a while."

Despite her talk with Gotab on Mandalore, she found some of those doubts, those thoughts that maybe she was making a mistake, creeping back. Or maybe she just wished she could be that hopeful.

"I hope you're right," she said seriously.

"So do I," Zayne said. "But if the last few years have taught me anything, it's that I'm an optimist, no matter how unreasonable that position is."

"I could never manage the optimism thing," she said. "Maybe because it's often unreasonable."

Yes, 'often'. She still wasn't going to say 'always' here.

"When your story starts with being both the least talented member of your Jedi class and the only one left alive, it becomes really easy to throw reason out the window," Zayne said.

Jaina paused, having to concede that point. "I can definitely see that."
