The Boards, Wednesday Evening, Rehearsal

"If you don't have your pieces ironed out and memorized by now," Jono said without preamble the moment he was certain everyone who was showing up at rehearsal was actually there, "now would be the time to get worried. I'll be opening the Boards on Saturday if you want time to rehearse, but I understand that the day new people arrive on the island is always hectic, so I won't exactly be chasing you down to throttle you if you aren't here, either."

Look, if people weren't properly rehearsed for the show on Sunday, it wasn't him that wound up looking like an idiot on the stage. Jonothon was maybe not the most sympathetic director ever, no.

"Get up there and smooth out the kinks. I'll be right here if you need anything."

Lemon water! Isn't it a good day for that?

And muffins, since the island hadn't been so kind as to try to drown them in popsicles again.

Natalie took a muffin. And some lemon water. Then she found a place to sit and eat and drink.

Because that was what you did at these things. Apart from rehearsing.

Hydration was important!

However, Minako hadn't managed to shake Artemis this time, and so she was sipping her water and trying to look angelic, an annoyed white kitty with a crescent moon bald-spot on his head wrapped around her ankles with his tail lashing in annoyance.

Do you know your numbers yet? Jonothon sincerely hopes you do.

But if you don't, he'll be there on Sunday with a camera rolling from the booth. Because he cares.

With two rehearsals now going on for her, Raven was very glad they were very different performances so she didn't have to worry about getting anything mixed up.

She had her song completely memorized now, so well that she wasn't accidentally slipping into the original lyrics of the tune anymore. But if her hips shimmied unconsciously while she practiced, that was surely your imagination.

Natalie knew her song like the back of her hand, thanks. These group rehearsals weren't the only time she played it, after all. Far from it.

But she rehearsed it here, as well. As you do.

Juliet had her monologue down cold, though there were a few places where she fumbled over her exact choice of adjectives. But in general, she seemed confident and impassioned on the stage -- if not as convincing as she thought she was.

"C'mon! You guys want to rap, don't you?" Kenzi looked around hopefully. "Or sing. Singing's good. Either. Or. Dance!"

"I can dance!" Minako offered enthusiastically. "Do you want to play drums for my song?"

"If you'll dance to my rap, you have yourself a deal," Kenzi promised. "What's your song again?"

Sue her, she was doing backstage stuff too, she'd missed some of the acts.

"I'm singing 'Venus' by Shocking Blue," Minako answered cheerfully. "Although I think an American group made it popular here...Bananas? Bananarama? Something like that."

"Old skool," Kenzi said, nodding. "Hey, you think you could do some kind of interpretative dance to the dangers of Fandom Island? They're probably not going to believe us anyway."

"I can...try?" Minako frowned and twisted her hair before shrugging. "Oh well. If I blank, I can just imitate kabuki or something, and no one will know the difference!"

"Especially considering some of the places they're probably from," Kenzi said, cheerful. "Cool. Drums and dance it is."

At least it'd give people an intro to what people did here?

Minako knew her song (http://youtu.be/JFRunzgYij8) better that memorized! And she was singing her heart out and ignoring her cat. Who...would be facepalming if he had a palm - Minako could tell - but was disgruntled. As cats are.

He's not sitting down today, no. He's taking in your performances while he runs around like a headless chicken, sorting out tickets and sets and making certain the sound booth is all in order and tuning his guitar and...

Really, he needs about four more Jonothons, but he's not going to stoop to making four more with his collar just yet.

"Is there something I can do to help?" Raven offered, if only to get him to slow down for a moment. You had lungs now, Jono, you had to breathe.

"I haven't printed programs," Jono said, more a realization in this moment's pause than any actual answer. "Do you suppose we need programs for this? We probably need programs for this."

They needed programs for this.

"Did we have refreshments for the audience for the last one of these? I can't remember."

"If you give me a list of the performances, I will take care of the programs," Raven said. She could use one from the winter showcase as a template; it shouldn't be too difficult. And she could probably track down someone who knew computers better than she did if she ran into any trouble.

"And I can go to the Perk or one of the restaurants in town to see if they could prepare refreshments for the performance as well." That would be even easier.

Oh. Oh, well, then... Breathing. Jonothon could do that!

He paused for a moment more, and then nodded a little, having come to the conclusion that it was better to dole out responsibilities for this than it was to drown in them and inevitably miss something pivotal.

"Food that won't stain if it gets trod into the carpet, please," he replied, reaching down with one hand to idly dust off his coat. Totally casual. See how casual he was? He hadn't been utterly worked up just a moment ago at all. "The Boards will pay for whatever they provide, of course."

Raven nodded, then inclined her head toward a nearby chair. "Sit down," she coaxed gently. "I think you need to take a break and relax for a moment. Surely you can spare a few minutes."

Jono eyed the chair for a second, looking momentarily tempted.

"I've done a fair bit more running around than this, you know," he replied, ever stubborn. "There's still plenty to be done, luv."

And if he sat down, he'd be far too tempted to not get up again.

"And it will all still get done if you pause for ten or fifteen minutes," Raven said, just as stubborn. "If you wear yourself out, however, things may not get done. Besides, if you do not stop for a moment, how am I to tell you of the performance in which I am participating in Kaeleer with Karla?"

Bribery!

That was a very good question, Raven! And it had Jono hesitating for another moment before grudgingly making his way to the seat.

"A... Oh? Is the coven taking up show business, then?"
