An Alleyway in the Abandoned Warehouse District, Thursday

Sometimes, a boy just needed to get a bit of reading in. Which is why William was currently perched on the back step of a building, nose buried in a French translation of The Art of War.

Perhaps not the most inconspicuous reading material, all things considered, but the fact that it was in French (and the fake cover he'd carefully glued on in place of the real one) would hopefully be enough to throw off any potential loyalists who might take issue with his reading material, should they happen upon him.

And although he looked for all the world as if he were completely absorbed in the book, William had been in Fandom (and a part of the resistance movement) long enough to know one could never really keep one's guard down, and so while most of his attention was indeed focused on the book, he was also listening carefully to his surroundings, and darting quick glances about the alleyway every so often.

"William," Bruce greeted, after attempting to sneak up behind him. He couldn't resist the challenge after noticing that William had his guard up. He wasn't sure how successful he had been, though.

"I need a word with you."

"Bruce," William returned, marking his place in his book before turning to face Bruce. The older boy was pretty sneaky, but William's childhood had consisted of an abusive home followed by an orphanage. Even before Fandom, survival had depended on keeping one's guard up. "Haven't seen you in a while." If 'over a year' counted as a while, sure.

"Fortunately there's a chance to make up for lost time," Bruce said. "I assume you know about Saturday."

William nodded. "You have something in mind?"

"I'm putting together a team," Bruce said. "We're taking the library. Either that helps distract from the detention attack, or that makes it easier to take a valuable resource out of Umbridge's control. Either way is a victory."

"The library?" William couldn't help the smile that those two words evoked. He'd been in the library a couple of times, back when he'd been a new student. Had even considered becoming a library aide. "I'm in."

"I thought you might," Bruce said. "It won't be easy. After we secure the library, we're going to have to hold onto it for as long as we can. There's no endgame other than rescuing and preserving the collection while the people on the outside work out their next step.."

"But it will be worth our effort."
