Caritas, Thursday evening

Kenzi was trying to get last minute things done. She had another idea to indulge in on Saturday, as well as a person to wear the Koushang (assuming it really was one, and really worked) to find.

Meanwhile, enjoy your totally normal restaurant. Where the hostess can't drink. Damnit.

Unfortunately for Luke he didn't have the benefit of being aged up by his own universe's shenanigans so it was an eighteen year old guy ordering a coke rather than the world's oldest senior buying a beer. Oh well, at least he didn't know what he was missing.

It was Kitty's day off, and she was... here. Don't judge. You try having a life under the Umbridge regime. Besides, she liked seeing who all came in.

She got a Coke (yes, she was nineteen still even in her own bar) and found a seat, reading over today's paper that she hadn't managed to get to yet.

Coulson was having a small celebration for himself he found most of the remains of an old handgun off in the wooded unexplored area earlier today (yes, he spent his free time scavanging for possible weapons parts in the deep woods), took it back to Wellspring's basement to try to cobble something, and finished the day with a functioning pistol. And best of all, no loyalists had seen him.

The pistol itself wasn't anything to write home about, even if he had means or a person to write to, but the small victories counted for a lot these days.

So was going to order himself a piece of cake at the restaurant.

Yakko walked up to the back door and called out "The password is 'PASSWORD.'" And then he moved on to do the same thing at the next back door without checking to see if anyone answered.

Yes, this was still a thing he was doing today. Nobody could say why, other than 'It's Yakko.'

"So how's today been?" Kitty asked. This really was the only place she could ask that question of someone pretty much every day and not have it feel like a boring question.

"Well I haven't been killed or maimed yet, I guess I'll call it a good day," Luke said, smiling grimly. "How about you? You obviously haven't been killed, but you could be covering some maiming."

"If I'm getting maimed, this place would be closed," she said. It'd be way too easy to find this place and everyone on to her if they were on to her. "Nope, just another day of playing nice with everybody."

"Does that drive you crazy?" Luke asked. "How do you not try to slap sense into people?"

"I know I'm screwed if I do that," she shrugged. "If I can shut up and listen, then I hear stuff I can pass on, and I can keep an eye on how things are really going. And then I go home and punch pillows."

"Well that's a credit to your willpower," Luke said, taking a sip of his soda. "I wouldn't have lasted a day before being found out."

"It helps that I have a bar," Kitty said with a smile, drinking her Coke.

"True," Luke said, smirking. "Though I'm amazed that old witch still lets her own people hang out here."

"I'm sure there's some rule about moderation. Or maybe she's sneaking a pink flask when she knows no one's looking." Sadly, Kitty only wished she could blame things on that kind of behavior.

"That would make her seem more human at least," he said. "I know gods that are less uptight and more humble than she is."

"She probably thinks she is one," Kitty said. Prove her wrong.

Richie didn't have anywhere he was supposed to be. Not that he ever did, anymore. But this was as good a place as any to stop for a while and be reasonably assured that he wouldn't get hauled off by a goon.

And sometimes it was an amazing thing to just sit and have a nice cold Coke. When you're living in fear under an oppressive magical regime the little things in life can be so important.

"Probably," Luke agreed. "But that just means her hubris can be used against her. Big weakness among gods and people who think they're gods."

"And let's all keep that in mind when everything goes down." Which she was both looking forward to and dreading at the same time.

"I'll be leaving that you guys," Luke admitted. "As much as I'd love to punch Umbridge in the face myself, I've got to focus on making sure a certain cursed idiot doesn't get himself killed in the crossfire."

"Which cursed idiot?" She could always try to keep an eye out while being in the crossfire.

"Percy Jackson. Black hair, green eyes, on the short side," Luke said. "Most likely will be throwing waves of water at people."

Maeby had the uncertain look of someone who was sure that the authorities would bust in at any moment. Hey, she was new, she hadn't tried actually going to the back room at Caritas before.

She was usually much better with rebellion, but then there were usually much lower stakes than being attacked by crazy people.

So she ordered a Coke and wondered exactly what she was supposed to be doing, to help. She had a feeling she kind of sucked at this whole 'resistance' thing.
