The Boards, Sunday Evening - Open Mic

There were some things that Jonothon did in order to make his life easier. There were some things that he did because he actually liked a challenge, and a good many things that he did because he was apparently a sucker for self-punishment.

What he was doing tonight, on the other hand, he was doing because dear god, not one but two people had announced that yesterday was his lucky day as they waltzed into The Boards yesterday, and then had proceeded to blow his mind both with how talented they were, and how obnoxious. He'd agreed to host an Open Mic tonight on next to no notice at all, mostly to just get them to shut up and leave.

The trouble with that plan, of course, was that having an Open Mic today was more or less an invitation for them to come back. Jonothon sighed as he stuck the letters up on the marquis.

Open Mic!
Free Admission
Stage Open To All!

Short and sweet. And now, if anybody needed Jono, he was going to prop the front door open and attempt to barricade himself in the technical booth with his cat.

[Open to all! Come shine on our stage!]

Well, Eric wouldn't be eating any of the food, but he also would try not to indulge in vapid chatter.

He lurked in the back take that, Derek, only stopping from looking vaguely annoyed at being there when he caught sight of Morrigyyyyyyn.

Who was beautiful and wonderful and the most perfect vampire EVER, okay?

Oh, like Derek could allow his thing to be stolen by a corpse.

So, there was a Derek. Just lurking in the background. Maybe he needed to talk to someone. Maybe he was there to show support for those performing.

Odds were on just lurking to get the lay of the land, though. So. Yeah.

Morrigyyn stepped up to the microphone and belted out Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" (complete with chest thumping and a full orchestra appearing from nowhere) before getting real and changing speeds with LL Cool James' "Mama Said Knock You Out."

She was versatile, yo.

As Randy Jackson would say, only Whitney can do Whitney.

As it turned out, Princess Leotarda Serena Fel, who had a black lightsaber and talked to nature and who also may have been part angel with her mood-changing eyes could also do Whitney.

Better than Whitney, even.

So when she belted out "I Will Always Love You" to the audience, if you didn't cry, you were soulless. Either that or you had non-functioning tear ducts and should really get that checked out.

As Demetrius Dorian Devdan Jones took the stage, purple and golden spotlights illuminated him. He wore a dove gray tank top, snug black jeans, and green Doc Martens with a dragon painted on the side; his hair had been combed to fall just so over his shoulders.

He clutched his newly acquired '57 Stratocaster like a lover, smirked at the audience, and played a set. One song was a wrenching ballad; the next borrowed Prince's funk and added pyrotechnics all Demetrius's own. As a whole, it was -- he believed -- a vindication of rock music and of the concert experience.

He was dripping with sweat and grinning even more when he finished.
