Tino, it seemed, was still trying to woo the barista at the Perk. But now he'd moved onto rewriting song lyrics so that they applied to them.

"I really don't think Every Breath You Take is a good idea," Guy informed him. But Tino ignored that.

Because some people just don't realize how creepy that song is.

Sarah... may have been just a little tipsy already upon arriving at Caritas this evening. Just a little. You could tell by how she didn't look completely pissed off at everything.

"Evening, Ginger." Tino got a nod, too. "Other creepy bloke behind the bar."

"Pregaming are we?" Guy asked dryly. And the conversation got him away from Tino's attempt at Call Me Maybe.

"I don't know what you're talking about." No really, she didn't. The concept was foreign to her. "I've just spent approximately three hours on Skype with a gay Spaniard having a retirement crisis. His crisis, not mine."

And naturally, alcohol had been the answer.

Guy stared for a moment before calmly placing a beer between them. "You win."

TINO, BE MORE WHINY NEXT TIME.

Sarah smirked, reaching for the beer. "Cheers, I'm sure it'll make Don fucking ecstatic to know that."

"My life goal to make him happy," Guy called back, grabbing himself a beer.

Sarah snorted. "Good luck with that, Don's never happy," she said. "Well, I guess if you were to provide him with all the drugs and bumming his little Spanish mercenary heart could want... That might work. But really, it's just bitching about how much he misses being a psycho. He's not really moving on in his life."

Another way to tell she'd already had a bit to drink? More words than usual.

"...so, former villain?" Did he try to destroy the universe? IT HAPPENED.

"Anti-hero, actually," Sarah corrected him. "The whole concept is kind of a nineties remnant, if you ask me." So it was probably for the best that most people didn't. "He's got enough issues for a subscription."

Guy coughed, focusing on his beer rather than that era where he was WARRIOR.

Yeeeeah.

"And you have to talk him down."

Sarah waved a hand. The one without the beer, thankfully. "Well, I have to listen to him and have a few drinks while I do it, 's not so bad." Except for all the complaining, obviously. "At least over here I don't have to get dressed for it."

Guy titled his head, clearly picturing her not being dressed for it. Because, c'mon now.

He was allowed.

He was allowed, but Sarah was still going to roll her eyes.

"Trust me, it was not as attractive as you think, although thank you."

"Aww, you're always attractive." And he knew the right things to say to a girlfriend. "Even when you're craving chocolate and want to kill me."

OKAY, MAYBE NOT.

Yeah, he was getting glared at.

And also flipped off. Because mature.

"Anyway," she rasped, "I tried to tell him to move the fuck on with his miserable life like I have, except I don't know how much moving I've been doing lately."

Which was a ridiculous thought, all things considered, but the alcohol may have been talking there already.

"Oh?" DO GO ON, SARAH.

"Well, when I got here, at least I was teaching heroing, right?"

Because the SPA had made her, let's not forget.

"Okay, so maybe it was under orders from those pricks," she added, quite rightly. "But still. And now I've been teaching how to fucking have a holiday. It's a total fucking demotion. And it doesn't even pay shit."

Guy just rolled his eyes at that. "Yeah, teachers really go into this shit for the pay," he snarked.

"I should still strive for a higher-paying position," Sarah decided, after a big swig from her bottle because everyone knew that helped you think. "Like, like... What do they have at these schools besides teaching?"

More eye-rolling. Oh god, all the eye-rolling.

"Like what? The administration?"

Biiiig shrug. She paid no mind to his eye rolling. She was shunning it.

"Maybe," she said. "Or... Counseling. You lot, you Americans, you're big on all that counseling bollocks, aren't you?"

Guy choked on his beer. "Counselling? As in the students?"

Sarah looked... mildly offended. "Yes the students. Who d'you fucking think, the staff?"

Mind you, many of them probably needed it.

Just not from her.

"Well..."

"Fuck you," Sarah said. Just to be on the safe side. "You should get me a shot of something, I'm almost out of beer."

Because surely that would make her plans seem more logical to him! It worked like that, right?

"Yeah, this'll go well," Guy grumbled, but grabbed both of them a shot glass and a bottle of the cake vodka.

Shut up, he liked it.

Meanwhile, Sarah was still wrinkling her nose at him.

"Aren't you supposed to be supportive?"

Of her insanity.

"I'm being supportive," Guy replied, pouring her a shot. Then downing it himself. Then he poured another specifically for her. "And wondering how man of 'em you'll make cry."

Yeah, Sarah reached out pretty quickly to snatch that second shot from him, lest he drink that one, too.

"Crying builds character."

At least she wasn't trying to claim that wasn't likely to happen.

Guy just gave her a look. "How many of 'em are gonna run here afterwards?"

Sarah downed the shot and made a vaguely puzzled face at the fact that it was cake vodka, before rolling her eyes at him.

"That's just good for your business. Or, your boss's business. Whatever. Besides, I won't be that bad."

"Have you ever taught before comin' here?" he asked, pouring her another shot and not even stealing it this time.

She was so going to end up... stealing a rickshaw or something tonight.

"No but I've been doing just fine with it for over six months, thank you very fucking much for asking."

Or being flown home in a bright green catcher's mitt.

Guy snorted again, pouring himself the next shot. "I'll have you know, I have a teaching degree. I'm allowed to call you on this shit."

That was actually a likelier scenario.

"But I'm still the one teaching," Sarah pointed out, "whereas you're here doling out shots of... is that seriously cake vodka?"

"I'm retired."

And sulking at the Guardians on Oa.

"Oh my God, please don't start on that topic," Sarah complained. One retired superhero was quite enough for one day. "These clothes aren't comfortable enough for that."

"Well, I make way more money tending bar than I ever did teaching."

A beat.

"Or being a hero. Christ, that's sad."
