Chilly Boulder- Friday evening

Despite logic and reason dictating that no one but masochists should still be Cubs fans in this day and age, Kitty was. She just had faith that they would win it all one year and that it would be in her lifetime. And after today's game (they won!), she'd checked the standings... and finally had to admit to herself that year would definitely not be this year.

So there was a consolation banana split happening because it made her feel better, and if you stuck with them through a season, you deserved a banana split, okay? At one point she even lifted up her spoon full of ice cream and declared, "Next year!" to the girl behind the counter, who just looked at her funny.

Okay, no, it wouldn't be next year and she knew it but she was going to hold out for it just in case.

[I couldn't let a whole season pass without ragging on my Cubs fan, and today felt like a good day to bemoan sports. Open!]

Coulson walked in and started the process the clerk was familiar with whenever he came in. With his hands folded behind his back, he leaned over and started to inspect how all of the flavors looked before even attempting to decide on one.

But this time, he had company already in the shop. "Good evening, Miss Pryde," he said while investigating his options.

"Doesn't everyone love ice cream?" Coulson asked. "I try not to go for it too often, but it's warm. And it's officially a holiday weekend. So why not treat myself?"

"Thanks for the warning," Coulson said. "Are there any other specials named after people that I should watch out for?"

"I appreciate it," Coulson said. He turned to the clerk. "I'll have the fudge ripple. In a bowl. With sprinkles? Thanks."

Coulson turned back to Kitty. "Yes, I'm also a sprinkles guy. But only on birthdays and holiday weekend."

"Sounds reasonable. Are the nuts celebratory too, or do they just keep sprinkles away?" Coulson checked.

"Do I want to know what the whole system is?" Coulson checked as the little paper bowl of ice cream was passed over.

"Are there any rules for fudge ripple?" Coulson checked.

"Hopefully it doesn't do that," Coulson joked. "I don't want that kind of brain freeze."

"Brain cryonics?" Coulson offered.
