The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Despite his less than positive employee review from Eric last week, Derek was once again behind the bar. And looking as petulant as one could while wearing a leather jacket.

All while the DJ played Florence + The Machine like his life depended on it. It was like he was going for a real life fanvid only with less black and white and/or sepia to make it all romantic.

Because giving someone a homicidal look while 'No Light' played in the background was the stuff of Nicholas Sparks.

Right.

Derek's hands balled up into fists before he made them unclench and relax. His eyes were on the already well organized bar. "Where do you fall?"

Clint was quiet for a moment, trying to decide how truthful to be. "Well, I've been here longer than I expected. And I've gotten kind of attached to some folks here, so I imagine I'll be here for the foreseeable future."

Well wasn't that carefully worded as all get out?

Derek nodded, still tenser than he really should be for a friendly conversation. "Are you going to say whatever you came here to say?"

Clint smiled again, but it probably came across as false as it was. "I just wanted to remind you that this is a small town, and word gets around about things. I haven't heard about you doing anything creepy recently, and that's good," he said. "A little positive reinforcement is a helpful thing, or so I've been told."

Derek smiled back, just as false. "Is that what this is."

Well, that and he wanted to keep Derek on his toes a little, in a vague sort of way. "I'm not going to threaten you, if that's what you think. Plus, I wanted to see what the place that isn't Caritas was like."

He didn't need to do something so gauche as to actually give a threat to get his point across, after all.

"Right."

Clint gave Derek another smile before drinking more of his beer, and then setting the glass down. He pulled out his wallet and tossed some money onto the bar. If there was a tip in there for Derek, it was small. "Thanks for the beer. I'm sure I'll see you around more in town."

Derek glared down at the money for far longer than strictly necessary before taking the glass away to be washed. This could come out of his check for all he cared, he was not touching that money.
