Hayrides did not sound Mike's speed, although he probably would have made his way over just out of curiosity. But he dutifully showed up at Caritas, where he proceeded to further familiarize himself with the kinds of booze they had on offer.

No, not by drinking. By looking at the bottles. He was yet to find the Froot Loop vodka Laurie had been talking about, but he had found both the cake flavored as well as the marshmallow ones, which in his opinion were just as weird.

Tino was still moping at him for whatever reason. He paid that no mind.

"Cake vodka!" Laurie exclaimed in recognition as she approached the bar and spotted the bottle. "Another old favorite. I mean, I love cake, and I love getting silly. Best combination ever, right?"

Mike laughed. "Now, why am I not surprised to hear that? I personally wouldn't know, I've never had cake vodka before. Back home we were... Well, we were more in favor of just vodka vodka."

Though they'd still been plenty silly.

"I mean, vodka vodka has its place too," Laurie assured him, sliding onto a barstool. "But where, Mike, is your sense of adventure? Cake plus vodka equals awesome!"

"I do have a sense of adventure." He'd adventured his way all the way up to Maryland, hadn't he? "Just think I prefer cake as cake. But if you want some cake vodka I am definitely not standing in your way."

As it was his job.

"You'd make a really crappy bartender if you did," Laurie pointed out, then promptly pouted. "You're not even gonna try it with me?"

Mike smirked, pretending to consider it.

"I don't know, do you think I should?"

"No one likes drinking alone," Laurie pointed out, shaking her head despairingly. "Would you put me through that, Mike? Really?"

"Does sound kind of ungentlemanly of me." He was already getting two shot glasses, yes. "And I do live to serve pretty women."

"That does seem like your calling," Laurie said, smirking at him. "I mean, you have the face for it."

Mike chuckled as he went to pour the vodka. "Thank you. Would you believe that's the first time I've heard that?"

Technically it was, when it came to those exact words.

"Clearly I'm making wise decisions in my life."

"Obviously," Laurie assured him. "I mean, people these days are just unappreciative. I'll get a memo out to all the other pretty girls on the island that we should tell the hot dudes serving us that they do a good job at it."

The sad thing was that she'd probably talk to Kitty about doing something like that, really.

"That'd be much appreciated, Laurie." He nudged one of the shotglasses towards her. "Although if you could also tip us well, that'd be great too."

"That goes without saying," Laurie assured him, taking a glass. "My bestie's boyfriend owns a bar and I'm pretty sure he makes voodoo dolls of non-tippers. Wouldn't blame you if you started." She lifted her glass and added, "Cheers!"

"Cheers!" Mike agreed, lifting up his own glass before downing it. He only slightly made a face. "... Well would you look at that. Cake vodka."

"Like my seventh birthday all over again," Laurie sighed happily. She frowned at Mike. "Did you not love it?"

Impossible.

"I think it's kind of an acquired taste?" Mike replied, diplomatically. "But I can see how it could have a chance of growing on me, yeah."

"It's cute how nice you're trying to be about hating it," Laurie decided. "What's more your speed? Pick something out."

"I didn't hate it," Mike objected, laughing, as he turned to look at the rows of bottles. "I just, you know, prefer my drinks not to taste like an elementary school birthday party, maybe. How do you feel about scotch?"

"Like I'm still not old enough to drink it," Laurie said promptly, "but I'll make an exception."

"Not old enough to drink scotch?" Mike questioned, reaching for a bottle. "I've felt old enough to drink it since, hell, probably when I was seventeen. I mean I know that's only gotta be a few years ago for you, but still."

Yes, the flattery was half automatic with him. He was like that.

"Again with the cute," Laurie noted, nodding. "I dunno, I feel like scotch is like, fancy." She wiggled her fingers, like that was going to illustrate her point better. "But hey, gentleman's choice. I can be fancy."

"It's not that fancy." Well, he'd never learned to think of it like that. He supposed some of it was more fancy than others. She poured them both shots anyway. "Besides, look at you. I'm sure you can do fancy in your sleep. Don't most girls?"

"I do sleep fancy." She kind of did. Laurie had weird values. "But I guess it depends on the girl." Laurie took the shot, and added, "Plus, you don't seem especially fancy. Maybe just, like, mildly fancy. On occasion."

"No, I'm not fancy, I'm just very high maintenance." He really wasn't. "Very demanding."

"What kind of demands?" Laurie asked, arching her brows. "Inquiring minds need to know." Particularly because she really was kind of high maintenance, la.

For loungings.

For whatever it's for.

These chips are disappointing me.
