After missing last week's shift due to a ridiculous party, Derek was oddly happy to be at work. Okay, so 'happy' might be too strong a word here. 'Less pissed off' worked better.

"I'm thinking we better start with whatever you're comfy with," Laurie continued, mistaking that for agreement. "'Cause me, I'd start with tequila but I didn't want to upset your little lightweight tummy or anything."

"Yay!" Laurie actually clapped. "Oh, this is gonna be so much fun! You seem more cheerful than usual. Have a good weekend?"

Laurie had spent it getting more of her stuff from Gulfhaven because I couldn't come up with any good insanity for her and thus...really had no idea about the bear trap she'd stuck her foot in there, no.

See, she wasn't even going alcoholic tonight. No umbrellas needed!

The fact that she hadn't explained what she was winning at might have indicated that she wasn't doing as well as she thought, or it might have just been Laurie. One of the two.

"Drinking with Derek," she told her, wide-eyed. "We're...." She took a moment to count the shot glasses, "...eight shots of tequila in."

And she was really surprisingly lucid. Again: not so much drunk as just...maybe a little more Laurie than usual.
