Laurie had to actually read the menuboard here. Lame. She was so used to not having to that she didn't think about it before ordering, "a teeny-tiny with a double-shot of damn!"

Needless to say, that' hadn't gone over well with the poor barista.

Now, though, Laurie was tucked by the window with some kind of pumpkiny coffee thing and her phone, scrolling through her Twitter feed. She'd just checked it like, half an hour ago, but already her followers (she still called them the Larmy, yes) had so many thoughts on the shoes she'd tweeted about buying.

Technology was great.

Kaidan was hitting this place up again after his afternoon run - kind of tradition these days. (Some days it was the only socializing he got in outside of saying hey to his housemate. He supposed that was a problem, somehow, but he didn't have the energy to fix it.)

"I'll have a--"

"Straight double espresso, black," the barrista said, without even looking up. "You keep making my life boring, Commander."

Well, what did you say to that?

"Seriously." That's what you say to that, if you're Laurie and you eavesdrop on stuff. "That sounds awful. Probably bad for your poor tummy, and your nerves, too. You're gonna make yourself all jittery and grumpy, dude."

No one asked you, Laurie.

Kaidan glanced over his shoulder to spot who'd said that. "I think I can handle it," he said. "Besides, overdoing the sugar's worse."

"Untrue," Laurie sing-songed, "because sugar makes you happy! So at least you'll be bouncy and cheerful about it."

Science.

"I have a pretty fast metabolism," Kaidan understated. Biotic metabolism could be a pain in the ass. "Double espresso is me energized and, uh, 'cheerful'. Thanks."

And hey, there was the grumpy one. Looking grumpy at Kaidan.

Though, really, it could just be Derek's default setting when dealing with people in public. So...

Oh, grand. It was him.

...Not that Kaidan noticed him glaring for at least five minutes, at which point he'd turned his head in the wrong direction and spotted...

Well, glaring.

Kaidan narrowed his eyes.

It was just his default look! Mostly! Look, you'd be grumpy if you had to deal with Laurie before coffee had been had.

Not that it really did anything for him, but still.

Derek rolled his eyes, looking away. Because he was made of maturity.

"What is your problem?" Kaidan asked.

Ugh. Derek sighed at who was in the Perk, but went on in to get his coffee. Because there wasn't a coffee maker at the house yet.

And now would be when he started to see why an actual house was a good thing. But only now. For avoiding people.

He gave the barista a look before she went to grab him the most boring cup of black coffee ever.

"Derek!!!!!!" Good luck pretending you didn't see Laurie. All that arm-flailing was going to make it sort of impossible. Unless you were spontaneously blind.

He was both blind and deaf, damn it. Derek's jaw went tight as he glared at the counter while he waited on that coffee. C'mon, barista. Stop dragging your heels because it was amusing for you.

"Derek!" She was going to be forced to get up and go over to you in a second here, buddy. DID YOU WANT THAT? "I have to ask you something! Oh my god, come sit with me!"

Why did this happen to him? Why couldn't people think he was a murderer and leave him alone?

STILES, ACCUSE HIM OF MURDER. QUICK.

Derek took his coffee, turning around like this was a horror movie. "What," he hissed like that would make her quiet down.

Daylight Savings time, combined with an overcast day meant that Allie was up and out early. She made her usual stop at the Causeway and grumbled when once again she couldn't pass over. Obligation filled, she took her book and headed to the Perk.

Being a vampire meant she couldn't actually drink the coffee she ordered, but Allie intended to enjoy the smell while she read.

She'd been in Fandom long enough to know that a pleasant smile at the other patrons was considered polite.

Laurie waved, deciding to be nice even if she really didn't care about this. "What're you reading?"

It wasn't anything personal, Allie. Laurie could just barely hold still long enough to read.

Allie had finally moved on from trashy romances. Jack would be proud. "Barry Plodder, the third one," she replied. "Have you read them?"

"I loooooooooooooove the movies!" Laurie decided. "I have a friend who's just like his bookish best friend with the terrible hair, but she's way more useless than that girl. I'm Laurie, by the way, hi!"

"Hey," Kaidan said, nodding at her with a tiny smile in return.

Guess he was actually getting social today.

"Hi," Allie replied, surprisingly pleased to see a familiar face. "How are you?"

"I'm..." Coping? Still dragging a messed-up head full of messed-up thoughts around? "Fine," Kaidan said. "Just a nice day out." He nodded at his table. "There's another chair if you want to sit down."

Since the baristas wouldn't let Clint just have a carafe of his own (honestly, it would save them from having to make him multiple drinks every day) he'd settled for a large Americano while on his break from the gym, and was filling it with a ridiculous perfect amount of sugar. This would keep him going for at least a few hours.

"See, that is how you treat coffee," Laurie noted approvingly. Not that anyone had asked her opinion.

Clint looked over at her and smirked. "I think you're the first person I've met who hasn't told me I'm ruining it," he said. "Honestly, it just doesn't taste right otherwise."
