The Perk [afternoon]

This whole week had been very confusing so far. Anakin hardly recognized any of the faces on the island, and when he went looking for the principal, he'd stumbled onto an office with his name above the title "Dean of Students."

This was either some kind of weird lesson from Obi-Wan about futures being in motion, blah, blah, blah, or Anakin was going crazy.

Naturally he chose to blame Obi-Wan.

He was sitting in the coffee shop with a cup of black coffee (because that's how cool he was), staring out at the hole in the park that Bel had left.

At least that part had remained the same.

Hey, here's someone he'd recognize! Sure, she was like seven years older, but hey.

Jaye stepped into the Perk, saw him and his braid, and while she knew something was up this week, she still had to stop and check the date on her phone to make sure it really was 2012. This was Fandom, after all.

"Jaye!" Anakn's eyes lit up. Finally, someone he recognized! At this point he would have been happy to see Bel.

Well, maybe it hadn't gotten that bad.

"Rory'll be so happy to see you!" He frowned as he watched her face. "You look old."

"...I do not."

Hello to you too, Anakin.

"That's not important," Anakin said, waving his hand. "Who are all of these strangers?"

"Uh, the people who live here now," Jaye said, sitting down across from him because she could and seriously, who decided the braid was a good look? "Fandom's being fun."

"How fun?" Anakin asked suspiciously.

"Surprise, you're somewhere they let me teach!"

Sigh, Jaye.

Anakin burst out laughing. "Seriously?!"

"Well, 'teach,'" she said, including air quotes this time, because really. "You, too."

"I actually teach ethics?" Anakin said, chortling. "Well, after Tara, it couldn't be worse, right?"

"I'm sure some people are sad they can't make out in the emo closet anymore," Jaye said.

She didn't know if that had happened or not, but she was sure at least one or two couples had done it.

Anakin snorted. "So...the dean of students thing I saw? That's a real thing?"

"Yeah. It's been a strange few years," Jaye explained.

A terrible thought occurred to him. "Did I get kicked out of the Jedi?"

Did they find out about Rory?!

"Uh, I don't think so?" Jaye wasn't sure she'd ever really asked, or at least Anakin had been here forever so she didn't remember the explanation now. "I mean, you still say you're a Jedi and use the sword thingie, so I'm taking that as a good sign."

"Lightsaber," Anakin corrected. "And I'm still here? Years later? I mean, it's all right here, but forever?"

"Six years is not forever, just like I don't look old," Jaye said.

Yes, she was going to keep on that like she was Sharon.

"It's only been six years? You look older than that."

This from a guy who thought comparing someone to sand was a really good pick-up line.

"Hey, hey, hey! See if I go drinking with you anymore."

She so would. She'd just make him pay.

"We should do that," Anakin said immediately. "I could use a drink. Rory and I were apparently housesitting or something for some old people with kids--"

He was slow, but he wasn't that slow.

"WAS THAT MY HOUSE?!!!"

Jaye nodded. "Your kids, too. Now who's old?"

Anakin sank his head onto the table, then banged it against it.

"Don't do that, you're shaking the table," Jaye said helpfully.

And spilling coffee on his head would just make his life.

"Jedi don't get married," he said from his spot against the table.

"Well, I was at the wedding, so I'm gonna say they do," she said.
