Devil's Nest, Friday Evening

Now that she'd had her phone for almost a week, Allie wondered how she'd gone so long without one.

Or more specifically, without the Angry Birds app.

The Devil's Nest was open and the pigs were doomed.

"Good evening," Coulson said, walking into the bar and taking a quick look at Allie. "I think I know that look. Is that the one with the fruit or where you get candy to the cute little monster?"

"It's the one where I'm raining death from above down on annoying little pigs that refuse to die," Allie said as she flicked her finger across the screen. "Ha! Take that. Three stars!"

Then, remembering that she actually had a job to do, she looked up. "Hi. Welcome to the Devil's Nest. What can Tiny get you?"

"Ah. I should have guessed. That was more of a bird-throwing swipe than a sword-slashing swipe," Coulson said, as if all swipes were different. "I'll have a Guinness. Thank you, Tiny."

Tiny served the beer and moved back to the other end of the bar with his own phone muttering something about not understanding an eight letter word for a purple and green blob.

"There's a sword slashing game? Really? I'll have to look for it," Allie replied. "They put this one on at the store and I've been playing on and off since."

"That's how they get you," Coulson said. "I was hooked on Words With Friends for months. But I finally was able to put 'QUIT' across a triple word score and walked away. I mean that literally. It was a good place to stop."

"Another one I don't know," she admitted. "But it does sound like you had an impressive accomplishment."

"Not really. I was losing that game anyway," Coulson said. "I wasn't actually good at it."

Somehow Allie had a feeling they had very different definitions of what being good at something meant. "Do you spend a lot of time playing games on your phone? Or do you do other things here in town?"

"I work at Wellspring Arms on Sundays," Coulson said. "There's usually time to hit a few pigs there. But I also just put my name in to manage one of the apartment buildings in town, so my free time might become a little less free."

"What apartment building? I live at MCA," Allie told him. She filled the information about Wellspring Arms away in her head. That might be useful one day.

"That one, actually," Coulson said. "It's nice to know that if I get the job, I'll know one of the tenants already."

"And it'll be nice to know who to talk to the next time the shower runs with wine instead of water," she said. "I'm Allison Sekemoto, apartment six. Most people call here in town call me Allie."

"Phil Coulson. Most people just call me Coulson," Coulson said. "And I'll be sure to have some empty bottles ready next time that happens. I imagine saving, bottling, and storing some of the wine is the first step."

"I was more concerned with washing my hair," Allie explained. A few months of access to running water and someone was spoiled. "I don't drink."

"In that case, you're probably stuck waiting," Coulson said. "In my experience that's the best way to deal with most of the things the island throws your way."

"It's not the most helpful advice, but it's pretty much the only advice there is for that stuff."

"Yeah, the whole weirdness leading up to the holidays has been crash course in dealing with the island," she agreed. "Fortunately it's been more annoying then harmful."
