The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

The DJ was playing the musical stylings of Justin Bieber this evening. Everything he even did, all of it. Yeah.

But that was not enough to get a response from Derek today. He was behind the bar, cleaning glasses and ignoring almost everything going on beyond that. He wasn't even silently planning the brutal murder of the DJ!

Please, like Pinkie ever went unnoticed. Even when she was trying to.

"OMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSH!" She shrieked, clearly NOT trying not to be noticed. "Only a week left before our FIRST CLASS, can you believe it?!"

There might be a decorative cuckoo clock in Derek's future. Which went off every hour just to remind him of his impending ~~doom~~ teacherness.

"What." Oh god, he'd managed to forget that. And by 'forget' we mean 'repress'.

Cuckoo clock. Grandfather sized. On wheels so it could follow him wherever he went.

Or maybe Pinkie would just pop up out of improbable objects to remind him herself.

"Yep! I'm so excited! Are you excited?! It's the Most. Exciting. Thing!!"

Jump out of random things in his office for sure. It would go so, so well for everyone involved.

"Exciting," he replied, mostly out of self defense. "Sure."

"YAY!" Wasn't it so lucky that Derek had the ability to actually hear the octave Pinkie's squee hit? So lucky. "Oh this is going to be the best semester ever!" Pinkie threw her hooves in the air and fell over backwards off her bar stool. "I can't wait!" she said from the floor. "Oh, why isn't it next week already?" She popped up to all four hooves and started prancing around in a circle. "We're going to teach them about friendship and sing and maybe I can get some of my Equestria friends to come and help out and sing and throw parties and everypony will have SO. MUCH. FUN."

God help them if they didn't.

Once Derek could hear again, he was forced to ask, "...sing?" HE DIDN'T SIGN ON FOR SINGING.

Pinkie paused in her prancing -- in mid air -- to stare bewilderedly at Derek. Then she landed on her hooves with a soft thud. "Well duh. Singing brings the fun!"

Mike was dropping by Derek's work for no reason at all, really. The good thing about bars was that you could always say you were there for beer.

Or to make faces at the DJ.

"... What the fuck is up with the music here?"

NO REASON AT ALL.

"Noise. High pitched noise," Derek grumbled, working on those already clean glasses.

"It's kind of terrifying." And you know, from him, that was saying something. "Makes me miss Tampa."

Derek looked over at the DJ for a moment, as though weighing the odds of being caught if he murdered the man. Then looked away before he could even give a good glower.

"What do you want?"

"A beer?"

He wasn't picky. Even if that was why he was here. Really.

And look at that, a beer was given! See, he was an excellent bartender, Stiles.

Who he was not speaking to.

Damn it.

"Not going to get into trouble coming here, are you."

Mike picked up his beer and rolled his eyes. "Kitty shops for clothes with you, I think I'm good."

It'd been a while since Kitty'd seen Derek, so that was something she thought she'd fix.

She was a little thrown by the music before getting to a hello, though. "Bieber is a terrible way to start the new year."

"I can think of worse." YEP.

"Such as?"

Katy Perry?

Derek shrugged, putting down a water for her. Because of reasons.

Kitty eyed the water, because she'd been going for like, a Coke or something, but decided not to actually say that. She could deal with water.

"That kind of day?" she asked.

Because it was damn good water.

"Week." Just about.

Well, there was that.

"Want to talk about it?" Though she figured she knew the answer.
