Fortunately Allie had made it back from her small road trip with Jack to check out his world. Which meant she was there to open the Devil's Nest on time.

The gremlin was still in the DJ booth, Tiny was behind the bar, and Allie had her nose in her phone using the Kindle app to read Othello. She was glad it had been thoroughly discussed in class last night, otherwise she might have had a problem with the elaborate language.

Eric was indeed there, kicking Pam's ass as they played Swedish Scrabble on their phones.

Allie wandered over when it seemed like there was a break in Eric's focus on his phone.

"So I found out I can leave the island last night," she told him. "I still can't get home, but apparently going to check out Jack's class is allowed."

"Good," Eric replied. "Will you be accompanying him again?"

"Maybe, if Jack doesn't mind," Allie admitted. "The class was interesting. I'll have to see what happens down the road. Plus I'd need papers of some sort I suppose."

"What kind of papers?" Eric asked. "I know people who used to provide some before we went public."

"Whatever I'd need to get into a school." In other words, a complete identity.

"Back home papers weren't an issue. If you were registered you were branded. It was the only thing that mattered." Allie's forearm was decidedly bare.

Eric nodded. "I can get that for you," he offered. "In your own name or another?"

Somehow Allie wasn't surprised that Eric knew how to get things done. "My own name is fine. No one's looking for me here."

Eric nodded again. "Is next week soon enough?" he asked. "I can get it to you on your next shift."

"Next week is fine," she assured him. "I'm not planning on doing anything yet. But it'll be nice to have options."

"I'll give you options," Eric assured her with a little smile.

She'd get three or four identities whether she wanted them or not.

"Do you show up on film?"

"I think so?" Allie replied. "I have a reflection so a picture isn't that different is it?"

For some reason Eric reminded her of Kanin at the moment, and the way he'd helped her when she first turned. Allie couldn't help a pang of regret as she wondered if he was even still alive.

"I don't think so," Eric replied. "I'll tell Jack to get your picture taken and send it to Pam. She'll do the rest."

"Thank you, and please tell her that I appreciate it." Allie would also speak to Jack about doing something nice for Pam. She was still young, but she knew enough about respecting her elders.
