The Boards, Wednesday Evening - Rehearsals

"This week," Jono said, once it looked as though everybody who was going to show up for rehearsals had shown up, "we're going to be working on blocking for act one. I know that's only a handful of you- Lane, Algernon, Jack, Lady Bracknell, and Gwendolyn. Up on the stage with you five. The rest of you, that's Chasuble, Merriman, Cecily, and Miss Prism, please work together on memorizing your lines."

He gestured to a spot in the audience seating that looked like a convenient enough place for people to sit and read their scripts.

"I'd like everybody to be off-book next week. Especially since spring break is coming up the week directly after. Speaking of, because we've only got a couple of weeks before the performance and I'm certain I'm going to lose most of you to whatever... thing... is going on over the break, I've been thinking of having an extra rehearsal on the evening of the third of March - that'd be the Sunday directly after whatever trip the school might have planned for you. That'll give us an opportunity to do blocking on the third act before dress rehearsal that Wednesday, and show night on the eighth. Any objections?"

He waited a moment for anybody to speak up, and then gave his hands a clap.

"Right, then. Get yourselves sorted out, and let's hammer out act one."

Tea, coffee, lemon water, pastries.

And probably, eventually, wine. Or cucumber sandwiches? Jono has no idea what's going to end up on the refreshment table these days, with this lot.

Natalie didn't bring any extra refreshments or snacks, which was fine since no one expected her to, anyway.

She took a pastry and some lemon water, though.

Karina was going to laugh a lot if cucumber sandwiches wound up on the table.

And if they did, she was so nabbing one either before or after she was up on stage.

For now she just took lemon water.

Juliet added a box of chocolate-covered cherries to the table. They were awful for your throat, but Valentine's Day meant candy for everyone. And besides, they were only in rehearsals.

She took one bonbon and plenty of lemon water to wash it down with.

DAMN RIGHT THERE WERE CUCUMBER SANDWICHES. Hearty ones, rather than the traditional kind required in the play. After all, they were budding thespians! They needed more than simply thin bread and butter to keep themselves going!

Zhahar was starting to notice a slight flaw in her decision to audition for the play. She was already nervous at the idea of going up to perform in front of her other actors. What was she going to do when there was an actual audience?!

Drinking a lot of soothing tea seemed to be her best bet. Hopefully Mr. Starsmore had brought peppermint?

Jono wants to have an extra rehearsal on Sunday, March 3rd, to replace the one on February 27th that's bound to be lost to Spring Break. Any objections? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Karla waited until most people were busy with something else before poking Jono. Literally poking him, of course. "Glacia?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I haven't forgotten," Jono sighed, nodding a little. "It's just, we only have three more Wednesdays between now and the showdate, two more acts and a dress rehearsal to go, and nobody's liable to be around that week on our usual day. I was planning on paying the portal fare here and back."

Because really, being a part of the New Warriors meant he had a wealth of Frequent Portaller Miles to burn through.

"Then I'll be coming back with you," Karla said with a small smile. "Unless you're planning to run a rehearsal without Algy?"

Which would be the saddest play ever.

"I'm sure Warren can amuse himself in Glacia for half a day or so."

Stage

For those running the blocking for act one up on the stage! That's Jack and Algy, Bracknell, Gwendolyn, and Lane!

There's some very basic furniture set up for the purposes of rehearsal. Some chairs, a table. A second table where the piano is going to be, because there was no way in hell Jono was going to lug that thing up onto the stage until he absolutely had to. Chew the scenery however you want.

"Gwendolyn, reporting for duty!" Minako cheered, tossing off a salute as she bounded on to the stage. "Let's get this party started!"

Zhahar was just going to stand over by the table and fiddle with things. She knew how to set the table, yes, but these were fancy people. She wasn't certain if fancy people set things up a different way than she had at home.

This was definitely something she was going to make Sholeh check on some time.

After a few seconds of watching Zhari fiddle, Karla strolled onto the stage. "Did you hear what I was playing, Lane?" she asked, looking immensely satisfied with herself.

With Zhari off talking to Jono--poor girl--Karla was going to skip right to where Frank came in, helping herself to more cucumber sandwiches. Because the script said so, of course.

"How are you, my dear Frank? What brings you up to town?" she asked, lounging on the seat Jono had provided.

Audience Seating

For those of you not going through blocking on the stage, please, get yourselves comfortable, feel free to sit around with coffee, tea, pastries, whatever, and run your lines with one another.

That would be Cecily, Merriman, the Reverend, and Prism!

April had her feet up on the seat in front of her and a cucumber muffin in hand (aww, Jono! You did care) while the others ran their lines.

This might eventually turn into napping if no one tried to talk to her. Actually, that was pretty likely. Napping would ensue.

Juliet had her script in her lap and kept fanning through it. She was almost ready to go off-book for the first scene with Miss Prism.

In a low voice, she muttered, "But I don't like German. It isn't at all a becoming language," trying to get a British inflection right. It was a work in progress.

Backstage!

For those who are doing that thing that they need to do! Jono has tossed together some props lists, if you have the desire to go rummaging through the storage rooms to see if any of it is already handy. Or start painting flats or whatever you came in to do today. There's no shortage of preparation to be done.

He's in a surprisingly good mood, considering Jubilee kicked his ass again yesterday while they were training in New York. But what was a few bruises between friends?

Yes, April. That was the polite way to ask about Jono's bruises.

Oh, April. Don't abuse the muffin that way.

"I'm going to assume you mean the bruises," Jono intoned, raising an eyebrow and picking the piece of muffin from his lap, "because I think it's better for everyone that way. I had a bit of a run-in with the fist of my... personal trainer, I suppose you could say."

While she was wearing high-tech power gauntlets that let her do things like casually throw loaded buses around. Details.
