One of the kitchen staff had apparently hidden brightly colored eggs of varied sizes all over the diner. Priestly was hoping they were all candy or plastic, since no way was he turning up the A/C to keep any real eggs lying around refrigerated.

The same intrepid staffer, Priestly was guessing, had lined up peep armies on the counter top, a mass of pink and blue bunnies armed with toothpicks and flat ware, facing off against the ducks, wearing salt and pepper shaker helmets, crowded around what appeared to be a catapult constructed entirely out of napkin rings and milk foamers. Priestly was keeping a close eye on them to make sure they didn't come alive and actually start attacking each other.

Just think of the marshmallow carnage if they did.

"You're joking," Dean said as soon as he stepped inside the restaurant. Look, he had a good burger yesterday and it was freakin' Easter. What other places would be open?

"One can only hope," Priestly said, referring to the peeps he was staring down. He looked up. "Oh hey, you survived the night."

"You didn't die of gangrene," Dean shot back, eyeing the peep battle. The right flank was a little weak, but it wasn't terrible.

Priestly was more impressed by the ingenuity than the tactics, really.

"I'm pretty sure it takes more than a day to die to gangrene," he said. "Blood poisoning poisoning, maybe. Thankfully, I do actually know how to take care of a small cut." He held up his arm, showing off a Hello Kitty bandaid.

"You are super judgmental, aren't you." Priestly shrugged. "It's what they had at the farmer's market. Now, you here to eat, or did you just want to make sure I hadn't gotten a deadly infection from your knife happy ways?"

"You could at least try sacking up once," Dean replied, adjusting the bunnies. "A burger would be good."

"I'm sorry, was that a reference to my balls? Because my manhood is totally threatened by a cartoon cat." Priestly shook his head. "What do you want on that? You name it, we got it."

A slow grin spread over Priestly's face. "Creative freedom," he said. "Sweet."

Roasted red peppers with cheddar and A-1, perhaps. Or maybe something with avocado and pineapple.

Nah, he could do better than that.

"Coming right up," he said, a distracted gleeful glint in his eye. "Be right back."

And he swung in through the kitchen, bellowing at the cook to "Step aside and let the real chef take over!"

When you'd started your morning with a hangover, this was exactly the place you needed to be today. Which was why Kitty came in, took a seat, and said, "...Are those Peeps?"

"Yes," Priestly said sympathetically. "I at least need a food group." Greasy eggs and hashbrowns was totally different from a greasy cheesesteak, after all.

"...Greasy breakfast type food?" she tried. "I thought grease was a food group."

"No way. Grease is a texture." Priestly jotted a few notes down on his pad. "Any food allergies, dietary restrictions?"

Sorry, honey, he was making you think with a hangover.

"No pork. Otherwise I'm not even trying to be that strict today," she decided. And now she knew that hangovers during Passover were probably not the best idea for many reasons.

"No problem," Priestly said, noting that down. "Gimme three shakes."

He ducked back into the kitchen and returned not long later with a steaming plate full of buttered, cheesy hashbrowns, two eggs over easy, whole wheat toast, and an all-beef sausage patty. "Greasy breakfast, coming right up." He poured her a glass of ice water and set it next to the plate. "You want some coffee with that?"

"Oh my god, you are my favorite," Kitty said gratefully. "Coffee, yes, good."

Priestly grinned and poured a mug full, setting the pot to one side where she could reach it. "That's what I like to hear. Good night last night?"

"There was a jelly shot party," Kitty explained, grabbing a fork. "Where what you're drinking is more like eating and they're small and taste good so you don't realize they're doing any damage till you're drunk texting your boyfriend from across the room."
