The Boards, Saturday
Jono woke up this morning to find that the nagging feeling of want had wandered away, much to his relief. In its place, perhaps the slightest bit of annoyance that anything resembling productivity this week had gone and flown directly out the window.
And that was why he was making himself busy at the Boards, keeping the front door open mostly just to air the building out some now that spring had finally hit. There was still a bit of lingering waffle smell, and today seemed like as good a day as any to pretend that he liked fresh air. Right?
As for productivity... well, he still hadn't chosen a play for the fall, and still wasn't quite certain what to do with the building over the summer while he was off fighting a war in Glacia. Rent the place out? Shut it down? It was still his home, after all. And... wow, it felt odd to think of it that way.
Huh. Home.
[Open door, Open Boards!]

"I'm Jono," he replied, still smiling. "And that song was excellent, Cadence. You certainly do know your way around a guitar. A little prodigy, I'd say."

Wise words from the industry professional that almost was.

Mom was hard-core.

"I started playing pubs and bars and th'like when I was about sixteen," he replied. "Drew a few crowds in, back then. No agent, though. The songs I wrote made their way to the radio courtesy of th'person I wrote them for. It was mostly a chance meeting with th'right person at th'right time."
And it had ended horribly for him. But she didn't need to know that.

A beat, and he looked thoughtful for it.
"I don't know that I missed out much, though. I've known people who managed fame at your age. There are a lot of things about just being a kid that they missed."

All of these things were true. They didn't actually explain what happened at all, though.
"If I were to tell you that I have a recording studio downstairs, just itching for somebody with talent to cut their first album, with their own music..." He tilted his head at her, offering her a slight smile. "You wouldn't have to do anything with it, if you didn't feel ready. But you'd have it there for when you do."

"I'm going out on a limb and assuming your mum is Kenzi," he informed her. "Her number should already be in my contacts. She's done some backstage work for me here over th'years."

The *exact* same place.

"Serendipity," Jono replied, smirking a little. "Go on, give her a call."
It was possible that he was just the slightest bit evil.

"Hey Mom? It's me. Cadence. It's not my fault."
A tiny "Oh, shit!" could be heard from the receiver.

"She's fantastically well-behaved, Kenzi," he said, loudly enough to be heard from where he was standing. "One hell of a musical talent, too. You ought to be proud."
no subject
"Ohhhhhhh." Okay, that explained some stuff. "Yeah, I am. Uh. I'll be the one with the guitar." She gave Jonothon a grin for the compliments. "Standing next to the tall owner of the place."
"Well, at least you're not Satan," Kenzi said cryptically. In Caritas, Vlad grinned for no reason. "Be there in ten!"
Cadence frowned as she hung up. "Why would she think I'm Satan?"
no subject
"Beats me," he admitted. "I've seen a lot of things in my time. Satan isn't one of them."
He could make a case for having met people who were close to a Saetan, but that wasn't quite the same thing.

Ten minutes later, Kenzi entered with a bag of cookies, two mochas, and the frothiest espresso ever as a thank-you for Jonothon.
"Okay, so at least I know you're not Toby's," Kenzi said, handing over sugar immediately. "And, uh, welcome? And you sing? Jesus, I'm sorry, I have such a hangover... and oh god I should not be telling you that. I suck at this."

"There's a learning curve," he offered, smiling. "We can all assume that prom went well, and move on, hm?"
