The Park [Sundown]

As the sun began to set, a portal reappeared in the park, sending out the irresistible, inescapable call for the young (and not so young) offspring who had come tumbling out of it on Saturday had to heed.

Time was up, folks. It's time to say goodbye.

After a few daysof this, Kitty didn't think anyone would blame her if she'd gotten a little attached. So, no, she didn't really want to be here. As she and Clint brought Lexi back to the park, she said, "I'm gonna guess the portal means we're in the right place."

Dammit.

This wasn't Jack's first time here, but it was his first time here with these children and saying goodbye to them had his throat oddly thick. The fact both of their worlds seemed unlikely to him made it even harder to say goodbye.

He swallowed hard to force the lump down. "Do you have everything you need?" he asked. "There's still time to run home if --"

"Okay, go on," Natasha said to Ivan. "Your mother's probably worried about you."

This was a massive understatement. His mother probably had someone strung up by their toes by now. Natasha might not have a maternal bone in her body, but she was pretty sure her reaction to her kid disappearing for three days would not be pretty.

As much as Rambouillet wanted to explore the island some more, he was starting to realize that as tiny as it was, it would make staying unnoticed much more difficult (especially after Maman had explained to him about the squirrels). Besides, he didn't get to do anything here, and Maman was inexplicably strict with him, so to wit: he was bored and wanted to go home.

He strutted toward the portal in the park, twirling his cane every few paces as he went.

"/Better hope the cops aren't around when I come out on the other side,/" he said offhandedly -- in argot, which he didn't care to do but the squirrels seemed to make it a necessity -- to Éponine, who was keeping apace of him and looking none too relieved as they got closer to the portal.

So apparently the other version of her was still mixed up with Patron-Minette. Éponine grimaced, but shrugged. "/You know how to deal with that, I'm sure. Just mind you don't send them back through to here./"

The other version of her could cope with whatever ramifications might crop up. She really didn't want to.

April sucked on the straw of the milkshake she'd just stolen from her alternate-universe daughter. "What about that one, you have another one," she pointed out.

Alec had two girls to see off through the portal, but Cassandra -- who for whatever reason made him less uncomfortable than Rainey -- was the one he started with.

"You didn't forget anything, did you?" he checked.

Victor wasn't sure how he felt about Nellie and Buzz going. It seemed like they weren't really his, you know? Like he'd dreamed them and the whole weekend had taken place inside his head.

But that was way too weird to say, so he distracted himself from it by fussing over them -- smoothing Buzz's hair, talking math with Nellie -- and hoping he saw one or both of them again someday.

Goose had spent the last couple of days handwavily spending time with Star and Max and even though he knew he'd have to say goodbye, it didn't mean that he had to like it.

Star clung on to his hand as he guided them towards the portal, Max trailed silently behind them. He knew this was probably going to be the last time he'd get to come through the portal.

"I guess this is it," Naomi said as her and Kathryn made their way to the portal, it had been a few years since she had last had to say goodbye this way and it still wasn't any easier.

Stark had met these children 3 times now and given them up twice already. He was not looking forward to doing it again.

One represented a future that should have happened and the other was...he wasn't sure what Glitz was but the boy was lovable.

The three of them walked very slowly through the park, Stark holding the childrens' hands, before stopping in an open spot.

"There's still time," he said quietly. "Sit. Please."

Jaye knew how this went by now, so she and OJ headed to the portal like normal.

"So... next time?" Jaye checked.

Shut up. She kinda liked the kid by now. It only took like six years.

Edie really didn't want to go. Home was a mess of hiding in bunkers and waiting for Dad to have especially lucid moments. But that was the deal and she'd known that going in, so through the portal she went. Hopefully Adelle had made sure Dad hadn't missed her too much.

As the portal opened, Francesca found herself wishing she hadn't gotten quite so interested in exploring that first day and had spent more time with tiny mom instead. Tiny mom was much cooler and less annoying than regular mom.

She gave Bay one last hug and stepped into the beyond.

Be totally okay with them being gone!
